Some crispy scrollwork ready for text! I’ve been quietly chipping away at my Knight Valiant, hopefully it sees a game in 11th Edition 😂

Even though it’s a simple colour switch, I find painting this red such a refreshing change of pace from painting Ultramarines. I’m currently bouncing between this project and my Impulsor. Am I insane, or do you folks also find a change in colour refreshing?

Here’s some closeups and more angles of Dogmeat, who took home Silver for Large Scale at the Sir Coates Painting Masters.

This year has been hectic - we moved house, and imminently await the arrival of Baby France, so I didn’t decide to enter until very late. In fact, I only gave myself 20 days to get this bust done - which meant I spent most evenings till 1AM painting. I remember more than a few bleary-eyed nights where I finally had to concede and go to bed 😂 Lastly I was saved by the quickest of turnarounds by the legend - he is truly the go-to for plinths and busts.

Anyway, I’ll do another post detaining the steps I took, and more of a deep-dive into choice of bust and my action plan that helped me achieve my goal of a finished piece in such a short time. In the meantime, feast your eyes on this cracking sculpt by and let me know what you think below!

Another UKGE in the books! As always we had a lovely time, so thank you to everyone who I managed to catch and chat to, and apologies for those whom I missed - it was even crazier and busier than last year!

Dogmeat took home Silver in the Large Scale category of the Sir Coates Painting Masters competition. Busts are still a new and scary medium for me, so I’m chuffed he did so well. Congratulations to all the entrants, but particularly the winners for your gorgeous pieces. My favourite part of these competitions still is getting to see these works of art in the flesh. I did want to thank the judges & who juggled running their own stall and judging, and to who, even with a broken leg, stood at the ceremony to hand out the awards and offer his advice on entries. Absolute gentleman.

Special thanks to best-friend-and-squire for his ceaseless (sometimes incessant) hype-man duties and for joining me for another of these awesome adventures. Good food and many good pints were had. Glad to have you with me, brother.

I loved the playing the ME3 multiplayer, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fought an Atlas mech - so getting to paint one felt quite surreal. I wanted to get all that lovely chipping and weathering onto the off-white armour, and I knew that I had to make the cockpit look visually striking - even if I couldn’t paint a Cerberus Trooper huddled up in there! Instead, I tried to sell the illusion of depth, pulling darker yellows across the space to suggest a deep interior.

This model is HULKING! Credit to the immensely talented .debosdari for balancing the weight of this thing and getting it to fit onto the base!

What do you folks think of it? Eager to paint your own? It’s up for preorder from now!

Next up is perhaps my favourite of the trio in Priority Threats Delta by - the RAMPART Mech!

I knew I wanted to get that nice shiny black armour just right, but in a quick and efficient way. This model is too fine to get the airbrush out and do it, so I worked by blocking out the light values and blending as I worked around the model. Then there was the OSL from the tech armour, which thankfully could rely on a few glazes over the light values established previously. I think the result is quite striking and true to Mass Effect 3 - what do you folks think?

As with the Geth, this model was beautifully sculpted by 😎 and was fully painted using range of paints (the Faust Blue/Shadow Blue/Frost Blue triad did work here!) 🖌️

These wicked models are now available for preorder in Priority Threats Delta, all sculpted by the ever-talented - I’m sure you’ll all ‘reach consensus’ and agree that they knocked these out of the park. They look as if they’re pulled straight from the game! Right down to the posing and everything 🤯

The entirety of Wave 2 is available, and there’s plenty more that I got the chance to paint, so buckle up for plenty more Mass Effect in the coming days 😎 What do you folks think?

More progress on the Impulsor - all these details took ages, but felt worth it for an open-topped transport like this. I went grimier and more like my Fallout style on this one, and I think I really dig it; a sort of mashup of Eavy Metal and something a bit more realistic.

What do you folks think of it? Waste of time, or totally worth it? 🤔

Some more angles and closeups of the 1:12 scale Dogmeat Fallout: Painter’s Bust! This project was a lot of fun. I’ve painted a couple of dogs now for , and I always enjoy trying to anthropomorphise them - in this case, a cheeky grin. How could you say no to that happy face?!

For those who don’t know, Dogmeat was modelled after a real German Shepard named River, the pet of two developers on Fallout 4. I tried to match the colours of Dogmeat to both the in-game model as well as the real life inspiration, just like I did when painting the Golden Retriever after Loki. I find it invaluable to have real-life reference in addition to game assets, so I was very lucky to find a few pictures of River online. The other challenge was creating enough contrast from midtone to highlight across shifting colours. I spent a day going back and forth until I found the right mix. Sadly, my airbrush was only useful for the initial blocking-in of light values, the rest had to be blended all by brush - but, more on that in a separate post.

I’m really pleased with how the bust came out, and hope you find it faithful to the game. If you’d like to paint up your own canine companion, Dogmeat is available for pre-order from Modiphius now 😊

Very excited to share the next Fallout Painter’s Bust I worked on - Dogmeat! An exquisite sculpt by that captures that joyful face perfectly 😄

I’m particularly pleased with this one - maybe my favourite I’ve done. Painting the fur was a fresh challenge, having it transition from Black to Brown while still maintaining highlights was fun!

As with the previous two, this bust was fully painted with the range of paints by - including the wicked new Dark Arts set. Noir Brown came in really handy on all that fur!

Nate & Dogmeat are both available to preorder now from 😄
