🚨 Emergency Call-Out in Bude! 🚨

Another all-keys-lost situation, this time on a 2010 BMW X1.

We headed over to Bude the same day to get our customer back on the road as quickly as possible. 🔑🚗

These aren’t straightforward jobs. This BMW uses the CAS3 encrypted system, meaning the job requires the ECU and CAS module to be removed so we can extract and write the critical data needed to enable a new key.

⚠️ This process carries significant risk if not carried out correctly — but at Key Smart, we have the knowledge, equipment and experience to do the job properly.

Another customer back on the road and another successful emergency call-out completed! ✅

🔑 2011 Ford Fiesta – Landkey

Customer lost their only working key while on holiday and was due to leave their accommodation this morning.

We attended first thing and had 2 new keys cut & coded within 40 minutes! 🚗🔑

Customer back on the road and safely on their way home! 🙌

2014 Ford Transit Custom spare remote key coded, the customer supplied their own genuine ford key, so we headed over to Torrington to get it coded in for them 😎 i don’t normally code customer supplied keys but as this was a genuine oem key i did not see an issue.

If anyone is driving the Torrington road from Bideford please be careful as there are large rocks in the middle of the road which seem to be falling from where the steel netting is, i have just suffered a blow out from a rouge rock on my way to a job! Be careful guys 🙂

🔑 A couple of jobs this morning!

First, we headed over to Barnstaple to supply and program a brand-new genuine Hyundai remote key for a 2020 Hyundai i10.

Our price was considerably more affordable than the local main dealer, so the customer was very happy with the saving! 😊

Then it was over to Combe Martin to help out our local Sainsbury’s branch after a driver had accidentally locked the keys inside their Mercedes delivery van! 🚐🔐

All keys lost this afternoon in Fremington on this 2013 VW Touran.

It’s always wise to have a spare key made for these vehicles. When it becomes an “all keys lost” situation, the job is considerably more involved and can cost significantly more, as various modules may need to be removed to access crucial security data, including the Component Security data and PIN code.

Fortunately, we were able to get this job completed within an hour of the initial call. We also supplied the customer with two brand-new keys, meaning they now have a spare and won’t be left stranded if they lose one in the future

Nissan Navara Ignition Barrel Replacement 🔧

This afternoon we headed over to Torrington to diagnose and repair a Nissan Navara with a faulty ignition barrel.

The customer had previously had someone out to investigate the issue and had two new blades cut, but unfortunately, within 24 hours, the ignition was jamming again.

We know exactly what causes this particular issue, so after diagnosing the vehicle, we explained to the customer what was required and arranged to replace the faulty ignition core.

We headed over with a replacement ignition core, swapped it out, and got the vehicle back up and running smoothly. 🔑

For extra peace of mind, we’ve also provided the customer with a 6-month warranty on the replacement ignition, should the same issue occur again.

Another job diagnosed correctly and repaired properly first time! ✅🔧

2009 Alfa Romeo MiTo — All Keys Lost 🔐

Another challenging all-keys-lost situation completed successfully in Torrington.

This 2009 Alfa Romeo MiTo had been locked using the remote, leaving the vehicle with no valid keys and a locked BCM (Body Control Module). In this condition, conventional OBD key programming is not possible, as communication with the BCM is inhibited.

Another locksmith had previously attended the vehicle but was unable to complete the job — this is where specialist knowledge and equipment made the difference.

Knowing beforehand that BCM removal and EEPROM-level work would be required, we removed the BCM and carried out the required work on the bench. Following the appropriate EEPROM procedures, a dealer key was generated and programmed, allowing the vehicle to start.

Once the BCM was correctly restored, full communication via the OBD network was re-established, and the vehicle was returned to the customer fully operational.

⚙️ No shortcuts. No guesswork. Just the correct equipment, technical knowledge and procedure.

There are plenty of claims that these vehicles cannot be completed with the alarm active or in this particular all-keys-lost condition.

They can. With the right equipment, experience and understanding of the vehicle’s security architecture.

Another difficult job successfully recovered and completed, getting the customer back on the road with minimal fuss. 🔧🚗

Mercedes A-Class W176 — Diagnosed & Repaired 🔧🚗

Over in Bideford today at MS Auto Repairs, we were called out to diagnose a non-start issue on this 2013 Mercedes A-Class W176.

We quickly identified the fault as a failed ESL (Electronic Steering Lock). When the ESL fails, it can cause the vehicle’s CAN network to shut down, meaning communication with the car is lost and the vehicle won’t respond to the key.

Another tell-tale sign is the steering lock not engaging — although ESL units can also fail in either the locked or unlocked position.

The customer agreed to have an ESL emulator fitted, which involved extracting data from various vehicle modules and then coding everything back to the car.

We also supplied and coded a 3 button Mercedes spare key whilst on site.

The job was completed with minimal fuss, and after being off the road for the last 2 months, this A-Class is finally back on the road! 🙌
