We are very happy to be attending Biggar Show this year!

A busy day spent setting up for our first show, having been visitors to Biggar show for many years it’s a privilege to be now participating with my own business on display!

Pop along and have a chat to the team, ask us about our equipment and climbing systems, we have our chipper set up, the log splitter and stump grinder as well. 🪵🪵

Log shed envy! 🪵🪵

Having thinned out several acres of woodland our customer was in need of some storage space for all the logs we have been processing.

We brought in Doug Roper, master shed builder! With Angus and Ronnie working as his ‘apprentices’ we had it built in two days.
This shed can hold 36m3 of logs, divided into three bays so it can have wet wood, semi seasoned wood and a dry wood section.

Now the task of filling it falls to us! 🤯

Last week we carried out a pretty exciting job (in our book anyway!)

An ash tree had suffered a major limb failure and was left hanging over an access road to a neighbouring house. ⛔️

Climbing wasn’t an option for safety reasons, so we brought in a grapple saw from Field & Forest Machinery LTD 🤝

With a 32m reach and large lift capacity it was able to pick and cut the branch work out of the tree and leave it standing as a monolith.
The tree was actually fairly healthy and we would always aim to keep mature Ash trees if possible.
From the remaining stems shoot growth should fill out and give the tree a chance to continue living. 🌳

Pretty cool to be carrying out this work on our doorstep in Broughton! 😎

The team recently carried out some Spruce dismantles in West Linton, the client had a precious flower bed below the trees and it was important this wasn’t damaged.

We have the techniques and skill to dismantle trees in a way that causes no damage to valuable items that are around the base of the trees, in this case we utilised zip lining to bring the branch work out over the flower beds and closer to the chipper. Saving the customers plants and also saving us some dragging distance!

Continuing this week with our woodland management work in Symington, we had the task of hanging bat boxes in the trees.

Most of the thinning and windblown trees have been felled, processed and cleared now so the woodland is a quieter place, hopefully more attractive for wildlife.

A bit of research on the best positioning for the boxes and then selecting appropriate trees, in this case trees which we weren’t likely to be felling anytime soon on return visits!

Something different for us but still an important part of the woodland creation and ongoing management. 🌲🦇🦉

The summer is a great time to process and split any timber you may have lying around your garden, woodland, or fields.

If the winter storms brought down trees then they can be split and stored to accelerate the seasoning process ready for winter.
Or if you have had trees dismantled and the timber left, we can finish the process and give you stove ready firewood.

The past few weeks our two log splitters have been busy on different sites, we can process 10+ ton bags of wood per day on your property.

Over the last couple of weeks we have spent time working on two woodland management projects, in Biggar and Symington.🌳

Dealing with several large storm damaged trees which posed a threat to people walking through the property. 🪾

We have also been selectively thinning trees which allows light into the woodland floor, opens airflow between trees, and generally promotes a more varied and healthy wood. 🍄

There has been a mixture of chipping brash, leaving deadwood to naturally break down and provide habitat for animals/bugs, and processing timber for logs. 🪵

Last week we dismantled a lime tree due to concerns over its stability in recent storms and proximity to phone and power lines to the property.
Timber was logged up and site left immaculate for the customer. 🌳🪵

We’ve also been making good use of the new arb van which we added to the fleet this month, a very handy bit of kit. Needs a bit of a tidy up to fit in with the shiny machinery we like to run! 😎
