🏠 ALL PREPPED & READY TO TILE! 🔥

Another project getting the Timmins Tiling Ceramics treatment — this time a 32m² new-build floor, fully prepared and ready for the tiles to go down. 👌

A big part of achieving a quality finished floor isn’t actually the tiling itself… it’s what happens BEFORE the first tile is laid! 🛠️

For this project we’ve installed BAL fracture matting across the concrete floor, providing an important layer between the substrate and the tiles.

💥 So why use fracture matting on a new-build concrete floor? 🤔

New concrete floors can continue to dry, shrink and move as they mature. Even when the floor looks perfectly sound and solid, there can be movement and stresses within the substrate.

That’s why we believe in preparing properly rather than simply sticking tiles straight onto the concrete and hoping for the best.

The fracture matting helps to accommodate movement and reduce the risk of stresses being transferred through to the tiled surface, giving the finished floor the best possible chance of staying crack-free and looking great for years to come. 💪

👉 Preparation is everything.

You can have the most expensive tiles in the world, but if the substrate hasn’t been prepared correctly, you’re potentially storing up problems for the future.

We don’t believe in shortcuts, rushing jobs or doing things just because they’re the quickest way.

Do it right. Do it once. 👌

🛁✨ SMALL BATHROOM… BIG PERSONALITY! ✨🛁

What a difference the right tiles can make! 😍

These beautiful tiles have brought this cosy little bathroom to life, and hats off to the customer for thinking outside the box and choosing something a little different. 👏👏

The combination of the deep blue colours, striking patterns and smaller-format tiles has created a bathroom full of character, warmth and personality. 💙🤍

Sometimes it pays to step away from the safe, traditional choices and be a little brave with your design — and I think the result here is absolutely stunning! 🤩

A lovely project to be involved with, and a great example of how the right tiles can completely transform a space. 🔥

✨ Herringbone done right… because the details matter. ✨

Another kitchen splashback completed in this stunning herringbone pattern, and I think you’ll agree it suits this beautiful kitchen perfectly. 🤩👌

Quality ALE 051 tiles from Discount Tiles & Stone which really does make working with the Herringbone much easier💪

Also adhered with top notch ARDEX UK x77w which really has super grip to stop the tiles slipping out of position 👌

“Why does herringbone tiling cost more than standard tiling?” 🤔

This little splashback is the perfect example…

At first glance it looks like a simple feature, but the amount of work involved tells a completely different story.

🔹 17 full tiles used
🔹 96 individual cuts made 😮😮😮😮

That’s right… for every full tile, there were over five tiles that had to be measured, marked, cut and carefully fitted.

Unlike standard brick bond or straight lay patterns, herringbone requires:
✔️ Precise setting out from the very beginning.
✔️ Countless accurate cuts around edges and corners.
✔️ Constant checking to keep the pattern perfectly aligned.
✔️ Much more time, skill and patience.

This is why herringbone is one of the most labour-intensive tile patterns to install. You’re not just paying for tiles to be fixed to a wall – you’re paying for years of experience, precision craftsmanship and attention to detail.

“Fail to PREPARE and you’re preparing to FAIL!!!”

Preparation is the foundation of success. A well-prepared surface ensures tiles are laid accurately, last longer, and achieve a professional finish. Skipping preparation often leads to problems, wasted time, and costly repairs.

Tanking now shouldn’t really be an option anymore and should just be done🤷🏼‍♂️

This BAL Tiling Waterproof 1C is one of the best on the market to avoid moisture damage and much more👌

It’s not always about the big jobs. 👌

This entrance floor was completed using BAL AF Max adhesive, allowing us to tile directly over the existing bitumen subfloor. No need for costly floor replacement or additional preparation work, saving the customer both time and money while still achieving a durable, high-quality finish.

Small job, big difference. 🔲✨

First time using BAL AF Max on this one — straight over existing Amtico flooring… and I’ll be honest, I had my doubts going in.

👇 The Process

* Tiled directly over the existing floor using AF Max
* No uncoupling mat
* No over-complicating the build-up

💬 First Impressions

Mix was spot on — light, fluffy, and went down easy.
Spreadability was quality, and no nightmare clean-up either (even once it had gone off).

📐 Performance on the Job

* Coverage was bang on spec
* Took time out of the job
* Cut down on materials
* Kept prep and finish to a high standard

🔚 The Finish

Finished off this 42sqm kitchen, dining area and utility room with some natural wood-effect porcelain planks from CTD Stockton — and the end result speaks for itself.

💭 Final Thoughts

Price might raise an eyebrow at first… but once you factor in:

* Time saved
* Materials reduced
* Simpler install

…it actually works out better for both me and the customer.

👉 Would I use it again? 100% — already back on it for the next project.

Proper game changer for me 👌

New products arrive on the market all the time, if we don’t try them and just stick to our old methods we’re just “standing still”. I want to give the best to my customers and move forward at any chance I can💪

First time putting BAL AF MAX to the test over existing LVT flooring 👀🔥

Prep is everything — high grade floor stripper used to remove any dirt, grease, wax & polish 🧼✨ then keyed up with 80 grit to give it the best possible bite 🪵💪 Now it’s over to the adhesive to do its thing 👊

BAL say this is an all-in-one uncoupling + fixing system… no mats ❌, less weight ⚖️, faster install ⏱️ Sounds great on paper — but can it actually deliver on site? 🤔👀

Tiles going straight down with AF MAX… no shortcuts, no second chances 💪🔥

Let’s see if it lives up to the hype 🚀👷‍♂️
