Wireworm is becoming more a common pest. Legume fallows and an increase of grass within the rotation is allowing wireworm to get a foothold in fields. Luckily, this patch is relatively small in a field of maize, but it highlights the damage they can do!

Maize beginning to fly now we finally have some warmth! Montrose damage by the coast, but plenty of tinged plants further in land. Herbicides going on next week and nutrition is complete.

Skyfall pushing on quickly! Continues to be one of the cleanest varieties about in this part of the country. 👌

A week of 2 halves.

1st half BYDV (Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus) is showing itself in cereals throughout Sussex. Even where insecticides have been used, there still seems to be exceptional pressure this season. Not a huge surprise given the aphid numbers we found in the autumn, but a kick in the teeth none the less.

2nd half was pleasing to see winter beans about to flower and the slow down of chocolate spot in them! Osr receiving its mid flower fungicide and spring barley has shot out the ground. 👌
