Providing honest advice, a reliable service, and Lifetime Guarantee on Workmanship! I’m Nathan, your local electrician from Birkenshaw. I have over 16 years of experience in the trade, and I specialise in Extract Fan installation and home electrics. As an NICEIC-registered electrician, my work is regularly assessed to ensure your electrics are installed to a high standard and are safe. I’m a famil

y man, spending most of my spare time with my wife, Olya, and our two young children, Alex and Maeve. I’ve had to put my hobbies of amateur astronomy and climbing on hold to focus on growing my small business and watching my children grow up, but I hope to return to them when they’re a little older. Speaking of time, this leads me to why I set up Quality Electrician. I know firsthand how hard it is to find an honest and reliable tradesperson. Wasting what little time I had worrying about whether they would turn up, carry out quality work, and charge a reasonable price is something that affected me personally. These are the values I built Quality Electrician on: honesty, approachability, reliability, and great communication. I understand that time is precious, so I am committed to delivering a stress-free, professional, and reliable service.

A simple light fitting replacement carried out in Wyke this week.

I really like this one.

Isn't it funny how things come back around? I've removed plenty of wooden light fittings over the years and now we seem to be putting them back up again.

Funnily enough, when you take the cover off, they're still put together in pretty much the same way. It's a bit of a blast from the past, just with a more modern look and finish.

This oak effect fitting suits the room perfectly and gives it a much warmer feel than the old light.

It's amazing how something as simple as changing a light fitting can completely change the look and feel of a room.

Have you ever considered a wooden light fitting for your home?

Something a little bit different for me on this one.

I don’t install custom cupboard lighting every week, but I do enjoy jobs like this. It’s one of those little luxury upgrades that makes a surprisingly big difference day to day.

This was carried out in Cleckheaton for a customer who had recently fitted wardrobes installed and wanted proper lighting inside the cupboards.

We installed a custom LED strip setup made specifically to fit the wardrobe, complete with aluminium profile casing and an automatic door switch, so as soon as you open the cupboard the light comes on automatically.

A much nicer option than turning the main bedroom light on at 6am and feeling like you’re being interrogated. 👀

What’s nice about this setup is the lighting itself is hidden away neatly, so it lights the cupboard properly without shining directly in your eyes. Clean, tidy and you can barely tell it’s there until it turns on.

Sometimes it’s the smaller upgrades around the home that make the biggest difference.

If you are thinking about custom lighting, wardrobe lighting or any electrical upgrades around the home, feel free to send me a message and I’ll happily point you in the right direction.

Following on from yesterday’s post about these dodgy online clothing websites…

The Which? article I mentioned explains how a lot of these businesses use:
🧐 Fake urgency
🧐 “Closing down” sales
🧐 AI generated photos
🧐 Fake reviews
🧐 UK sounding business names

…to make themselves look trustworthy.

And to be fair, some of these websites genuinely look more professional than proper established businesses nowadays.

That’s what makes them dangerous.

You don’t realise there’s a problem until:
❌ The item finally arrives
❌ The quality is awful
❌ Customer service becomes difficult
❌ Returns suddenly need posting overseas

Then the refund battle begins.

It’s frustrating because it also damages trust in genuine online businesses who are actually trying to do things properly.

Bit of a reminder really that fancy websites and polished adverts don’t always mean quality behind the scenes.

I’ll pop the Which? article in the comments again because it’s well worth reading before ordering from somewhere unfamiliar online.

Out of curiosity… what’s the worst thing you’ve ever ordered online that looked brilliant in the advert but terrible in real life? 👀

Just a little warning for anybody buying clothes online lately…

There’s a really interesting Which? article doing the rounds at the minute about these online “boutique” clothing websites that look completely legitimate but end up selling really poor quality products shipped from overseas.

And honestly… we’ve been caught ourselves. 👀

We ordered a top recently from what looked like a proper UK company called “Chaps of London”.

Professional website.
Decent branding.
Nice photos.

Nothing looked suspicious at all.

Then the item arrived and the quality was absolutely appalling. Nothing like the photos online.

When we contacted them about returning it, we were told it had to be shipped back to China at our expense… which would cost nearly more than the item itself.

Convenient that. 😂

Only afterwards did we start spotting the warning signs.

Apparently this sort of thing is becoming really common now. Websites pretending to be UK businesses when they’re essentially just cheaply shipping poor quality products from overseas.

The scary bit is how convincing these sites have become nowadays.

I’ll put the full Which? article in the comments because it’s definitely worth a read.

Have you been caught out by anything similar recently?

This one was a serious install.

Long pipe runs through the loft, multiple bends, awkward routing and the sort of setup where a standard bathroom fan simply wouldn’t cut it.

We installed a Nuaire MEV-H system on this property. Basically, it’s a central extract ventilation unit that constantly renews the air in the home using a low level trickle function. Then, when moisture levels rise from things like showers or steam, the built in humidistat automatically ramps the system up.

The best part?

It’s virtually silent compared to most inline fans and requires next to no maintenance apart from occasionally cleaning the bathroom grilles.

This type of system is ideal for homes suffering with:

💧 Condensation
💧 Black mould
💧 Mouldy ceilings
💧 Musty smells
💧 Poor airflow in loft spaces
💧 Long duct runs where normal fans struggle

We get quite a few calls from customers who have already had somebody out to “fix” the problem, only for the mould and condensation to come straight back a few months later.

The truth is, poor ventilation design is usually the issue, not just the fan itself.

Sometimes a bigger, properly designed system is the answer.

If you’re struggling with condensation or mould in your home, send me a message or give us a call. Happy to have a look and point you in the right direction.

Tips around the home 💷

We all know things are a bit tight at the minute, and every little helps.

Which? recently suggested that a few simple changes to your laundry routine could save over £100 a year.

A couple that stood out to me:

👕 Wash at 20°C or 30°C where possible. Modern detergents are much better than they used to be, so most everyday washing doesn't need a hot wash.

🧴 Don't assume the most expensive detergent is the best. Method was one of Which?'s Best Buy detergents and performed very well in testing.

🌬️ Keep your tumble dryer clean. Many heat pump dryers have a heat exchanger at the bottom that can become clogged with lint and fluff. When this happens the dryer has to work harder, uses more energy and can take longer to dry your clothes.

🧺 Try to avoid lots of small washes. Waiting until you've got a fuller load is usually more efficient than running the machine every day.

Nothing groundbreaking, but a few small changes can soon add up over the course of a year.
