The government has announced plans to end the sale of halogen light bulbs from this September, as part of the UK’s wider efforts to tackle climate change from cutting carbon emissions by an amount equivalent to removing half a million cars from British roads.

Sale of high energy fluorescent lights will also begin to be phased out under the government's climate plans

The UK began phasing out the sale of higher-energy halogen light bulbs in 2018 under EU-wide rules.

Now retailers will no longer be able to sell most remaining halogen bulbs, such as kitchen spotlights.

Legislation for the plans is being brought forward this month (Wednesday 9th June 2021) by the government.
