Another quality install completed — and this one deserves a special mention 👏

This boiler was installed for some lovely customers in Olton, Solihull by our 19-year-old apprentice under my supervision, who’s now been with me for 3 years. Watching his progress from day one to being able to carry out installs like this is something I’m genuinely proud of.

Loft installations are no joke. Tight access, awkward pipe runs, working in heat, poor lighting — it’s not an easy environment, and definitely not where you learn the trade overnight. This job takes proper graft, attention to detail, and the right attitude — all of which he’s shown consistently.

From pipework layout to overall finish, this is a top job and a reflection of the hard work he’s been putting in behind the scenes.

🚨 Dangerous Boiler Found in Erdington During Gas Safety Check 🚨

We were recently called out to Erdington for a routine gas safety inspection, and this one could have easily been missed…

The property had a Vaillant combi boiler that hadn’t been properly serviced for years. During our checks, we discovered:

❌ A perished heat exchanger gasket
❌ A failed combustion chamber cover seal
❌ Signs of products of combustion leaking internally

This is exactly the kind of issue that can go unnoticed but poses a serious carbon monoxide risk if left unchecked.

Afterglow plumbing & heating were called out to an urgent plumbing repair in Castle Bromwich after water started leaking through the floorboards of a ground-floor hallway.

🔧 Worcester Boiler Repair – Smiths Wood, Birmingham 🔧

We were called out to a Worcester boiler repair in Smiths Wood where the customer had a long-standing leak that had gone unnoticed for quite some time.

On inspection, we found the return manifold was leaking, but due to a seized and badly rusted fixing screw, a straightforward repair wasn’t possible. To carry out the job correctly, we had to remove the entire hydro block, carefully cut out the seized screw, and refit the assembly. As a preventative measure, we also replaced the flow manifold at the same time to avoid future issues.

While the boiler was stripped down, we identified an additional fault — a leaking condensate trap — which we replaced to ensure the boiler was left safe, efficient, and reliable.

🚰 Slow drip… then suddenly disaster! 🚰

We were called out to Hubert Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham after a tap that had been slowly leaking for some time suddenly failed. The spout popped off and wouldn’t refit, meaning every time the tap was used, water sprayed straight out of the top 💦

Boiler Repair in Harborne – Ravenhurst Road

Another same-day boiler repair completed in Harborne on Ravenhurst Road.

We attended a property with a Worcester Bosch CDI boiler that had stopped working. Following full fault diagnosis, we identified a failed circuit board, which was replaced to restore heating and hot water.

During safety checks, we also discovered a dangerous flue issue — the inner flue seal had perished, posing a potential carbon monoxide risk. For the customer’s safety, we replaced the flue in full and installed a new carbon monoxide alarm for added peace of mind.

The customer was extremely happy with the repair and safety work, and we’ve already been back out to Moor Pool Road to quote for a new boiler installation for her neighbour — local word-of-mouth at its best.
