Bit of an unusual job today as the team have been working in the North Pole!

Santa and his Elves got in touch as they needed more storage space in their toy factory. The big man himself told me they’ve been balancing all the extra boxes of presents on the joists for the last couple of years and this Christmas, they’ve had enough!

We’ve installed some excellent P5 18mm flooring in his loft space to solve the problem and even fitted some clever shelving in the sides. One of the Elves said it was the best “elf on the shelf” upgrade he’s ever seen!

MORNING!! Where do I even start with this one? 🧐🤔😣🤨 Here goes…

1️⃣ Loft hatch isn’t insulated ❄️😬
2️⃣ Loft hatch doesn’t seal properly when shut 💨🚫
3️⃣ No guide rail on the loft ladder ⚠️
4️⃣ Sharp metal edges exposed on the ladder 😖🩹
5️⃣ Area around the loft hatch not insulated or boarded correctly 🔧❌
6️⃣ Loft ladder poorly attached 😳🪜

7️⃣ Anyone got any more??? 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♀️

All of these need attention, but the last three are seriously dangerous — genuine accidents waiting to happen 🚑💥.

We keep seeing lofts that are like a history book of insulation trends through the decades:

🏠💪 BIGGEST job of the week = one VERY toasty bungalow in Penn (WV4)!

This lovely 1960s-built beauty had a 700 sq ft loft that hadn’t had a proper upgrade since The Beatles were topping the charts. 🎸

What we found:
• A single sad 100mm layer of insulation from the prehistoric insulation era.
• Pine planks everywhere. It was like walking into a sauna built by a lumberjack. 🪵
• An insulated loft hatch that… wasn’t. 😬

What we did:
✔️ Carefully lifted and removed all the old boarding (we treat your home better than our own backs).
✔️ Bagged up and removed the tired old insulation.
✔️ Hoovered every inch of the loft like it was about to go on Airbnb.
✔️ Disinfected it top to bottom (because mystery loft dust is not part of the charm).
✔️ Laid TWO fresh layers of modern Knauf insulation – warm, fluffy, and energy-saving!
✔️ Installed raised P5 flooring for actual usable storage.
✔️ Fitted a brand-new insulated loft hatch with a quality ladder for easy access and zero drafts. 🎯

After 3 days: Mission accomplished. House = warmer. Bills = lower. Storage = sorted. Back = sore, but worth it. 💪
