The spot sprayer is heading down east again soon, get in touch if you’re thinking about getting some end of season weeds cleaned up!

We got our winter barley (Valerie) cut on Sunday the second of August, exactly a year to the day that we cut the the bit in Kirkwall kindly donated to us from Robert Spence!

It was then sown in two different fields in the start of September last year, one at Queena in Sandwick and the other at Whitecleatts Birsay (around the back of the Boardhouse loch) it was a bit of fun and an experiment, we got roughly 2.5 tonnes per acre and 129 round bales off 15-16 acres,thanks to Benji Hay for the excellent drone footage.

SKAi Spot Sprayer
A peedie update on how the spot sprayer has been working on its first season. Firstly we were overwhelmed by the interest and uptake of this service.
Aaron has done very well tae get ower the acreage this spring.
On the whole the results and feedback are mostly positive, but there have been a few fields that weren’t a complete success, which is disappointing, but probably understandable, as maybe our expectations are too high!
There are so many variables to consider when spraying docks, growth stage, weather conditions before and after spraying, and amount of grass cover, even in these fields it has still made a marked improvement, with a lot less docks in the silage crop.
On the positive side again, most fields have been a good success, and some a complete transformation! As you can see in the videos.
Now is another great chance tae spray in the silage aftermath, or a grazing field that’s been topped.
In summary we are very pleased with the first results, and as software updates become available the machine will become even more accurate.
As one customer said “the SKAi sprayer is the biggest revolution tae happen in agriculture for some time”.

Here is some footage of our rotator/stone burier seeder in action sowing green manure/bird crop straight into overwintered desiccated stubbles . It worked well made a good tilth and just needed a roll when done!
This machine would also be suitable for sowing grass seed into a dessicated grass field, or cover crops/ grass seed into newly combined stubble after harvest.
This should work out cheaper and faster than a complete plough job, no ploughing up big stones and a lot less passes so good for the environment too!
