Let’s talk Trickle Vents.

Under the current building regulations, trickle vents are now standard and mandatory on almost all new and replacement windows.

Here are just a few jobs from the past week,

Why did my window handle stop working? 🛠️

It’s a frustrating feeling: you turn the handle, but nothing happens. Or worse, the handle is stuck solid. Usually, the handle itself isn't the only part to blame—it’s often a "team effort" between three things:

1 The spindle detaches from the handle and falls out resulting in a new handle and the lock mechanism breaks but different. Locks break in different ways.

2 The Gearbox is Seized: The handle is just the "steering wheel." If the gearbox (the engine) inside the window or door has jammed due to rust or broken springs, the handle has nowhere to go.

3 Forced Operation: If a door is hard to lock, many people "force" the handle upward. This puts massive pressure on the internal components until they eventually snap.

The Fix: Whether it’s a detached spindle or a broken gearbox, we can replace the parts without needing a whole new window or door!

Why is my window/door sticking? 🚪🤔

It’s easy to ignore hinges until you’re struggling to lock your front door or your bedroom window won't close flush. But why do they fail in the first place? Here is one reason.

Metal Fatigue & Weight: Over time, the sheer weight of a heavy double-glazed unit pulls on the friction stays (the hinges). This causes them to "drop" or bow, meaning the window no longer lines up with the frame.

Check for these 3 signs: 🚩

🚩The Gap: Can you see light or feel a draft coming through the side where the hinges are?

🚩The Drop: Does your door or window "drag" along the bottom of the frame when you open it?

🚩The Sound: Is there a grinding or clicking noise when you move it?
