Helping an iconic Blackpool landmark shine again

We're proud to have played a key role in the refurbishment of Blackpool's iconic Wedding Chapel (Your Blackpool Wedding), helping restore one of the resort's most recognisable buildings ahead of its 15th anniversary.

📍 Located on the Promenade opposite Blackpool Tower, the award-winning venue has welcomed more than 6,000 couples since opening in 2012.

Led by Contracts Manager Ben Reader, our team carried out extensive works at the start and end of the project.

Ben said: "The Wedding Chapel has a really striking design with an overhanging cantilevered balcony. None of our team had worked on anything like it before. It was a really interesting project to be involved in."

👷 The project also provided valuable experience for the next generation of construction professionals, with two Evolution apprentices involved in the works.

Ben added: "We were the first team on site and the last team off it. It was very satisfying to have been there at the beginning and be back there to complete it."

🤝 A fantastic project to be part of, working with Blackpool Council to help preserve a landmark that holds a special place in the hearts of thousands of couples and visitors.

A bigger, better gym for Blackpool

We're proud to have completed the £250,000 refurbishment of Active Blackpool's Moor Park Health & Leisure Centre, helping create a larger, more modern space for local residents to get active and stay active.

The project included:
✅ Extending and reconfiguring the gym space
✅ Creating two new consultation rooms within the Active Wellbeing Suite
✅ A full refurbishment and fit-out of the facility
✅ Completion two weeks ahead of the planned schedule

Led by Evolution Contracts Manager Ben Reader and delivered by the Evolution team of 36 skilled tradesmen, the transformed facility now features new equipment from EGYM, Matrix Fitness (UK) and Innerva, alongside an enhanced gym environment for members.

Ben said: "We are all really proud of the work we have done at Moor Park Leisure Centre. It's been a complete refurbishment and we are really impressed with the way it looks."

Councillor Matthew Thomas, Blackpool Council's Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing, added: "I'm delighted to see Moor Park's gym back open. Staying active is vital and I am proud that Blackpool has spaces like this for residents to feel inspired to get active and stay active."

A fantastic project delivered in partnership with Blackpool Council and Active Blackpool, creating improved facilities that will benefit the local community for years to come.

🏠 At Evolution we’re always delighted to give young people work experience and an insight into what a career in construction involves.

This summer we have supported seven students, aged 14-16, from the Blackpool area on work experience.

All have been a credit to themselves, their families and their teachers and schools, and have done themselves proud. 👏

Among them is Lucas, from Fleetwood High School, who has spent a week on work experience with us, and then two days a week all through the summer holidays.

Lucas, who enjoys ICT and all the science and maths STEM subjects at school said: “I have really enjoyed it. It has given me a real insight into what the world of work is like and what you do every day. I have definitely learned new skills as well. Everyone has been so welcoming and has always been happy to answer any questions I have. It has been great and hopefully it will help me when I come to start out in my career.”

We are also working with the Department for Work and Pensions - DWP to provide work experience placements under the “Youth Guarantee” scheme, which aims to give 18-21-year-olds who have spent 18 months or more on Universal Credit, the opportunity for paid work placements to help them get into employment.

We have agreed to block out two weeks every quarter to provide young people from across our community with this important opportunity to gain experience of the world of work.💼

JJ Fitzgerald, our Managing Director, said: “I think we all realise that these can be challenging times for many young people, and if we can do our bit to help them on their road to finding a job, and an opportunity to build their lives, then we believe it is absolutely the correct thing to do. We look forward to welcoming them to Evolution and hopefully inspiring them about what doors a career in construction can open.”

We're proud that our recent contract success in Blackpool has created new opportunities for local people, with Kevan Holland and Ryan Hellewell recently joining the Evolution team.

Kevan brings more than 20 years of industry experience to our electrical maintenance team, while Ryan helps coordinate our maintenance and Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) work for Blackpool Coastal Housing.

Away from work, Kevan enjoys family time, dog walks and following Blackpool FC, while Ryan loves beach walks on the Fylde Coast and is a keen banger racing fan.

Speaking about Evolution, Kevan said: "The whole team at Evolution is great to work with."

Ryan added: "I love this place. The whole atmosphere. The vibe where everyone works together as a team."

Their colleague helpdesk coordinator Stuart Whittaker-Smith said: "They have both fitted in really well and are both integral members of the team. It’s a great team here. It really does feel like family."

We're delighted to have Kevan and Ryan on board and look forward to seeing them continue to grow with Evolution. 👏

From workplace experience to panel stage at national launch.

Not every young person finds their place in mainstream education.

For Warren, school was challenging. Living with autism, the classroom environment wasn’t where he felt most comfortable. Warren attended Educational Diversity, Athena School, in Blackpool. It was during this time that Warren was given the opportunity to spend one day a week on workplace experiences with Evolution, following his interest in becoming an electrician.

That opportunity made a real difference.

With the support of the team, Warren grew in confidence, developed practical skills and began to find a routine that worked for him. His placement increased to two days a week, and with it came greater focus and motivation to continue his education.

Warren said:

“The work experience placement was such an important step in my life. Without it, I don’t think I would have finished school, and I definitely wouldn’t be where I am now.”

Warren is now a thriving electrical apprentice, a journey that shows how the right opportunity, at the right time, can change everything.

Today (12 June), Warren returned to Educational Diversity in Blackpool to share his experience as part of the national launch of the Aspiring Pathways programme, which is designed to expand access to high-quality, meaningful workplace experiences for young people in Alternative Provision (AP). Warren spoke about his education journey, offering a real-life perspective that others can relate to.

Our Managing Director, JJ Fitzgerald, said:

“We’re passionate about giving young people a chance and supporting them to build a future. Warren’s journey shows the impact that the right support, at the right time, can have.”

Great to work alongside Blackpool Council’s Care Leavers Team to support a young person in her home 👇

After recently having new carpets fitted, three doors in the property were catching and couldn’t be opened properly, making day-to-day living difficult.

We donated the time and skills of one of our joiners who visited and resolved the issue:
🔧 3 doors trimmed and rehung
🔧 2 doors repaired with new bases

A small fix, but one that’s made a real difference, helping her move around her home comfortably again.

Feedback like this means everything:
“The joiner who came out was very helpful, friendly and polite. I am so grateful that he managed to get everything sorted. My house looks so much better.”

As Dave Spalding explains:
“We’re proud to use our team’s skills to support young people leaving care, helping with what matters most, in this case resolving an issue that’s made it easier for this young person to enjoy living in her home.”

We’re proud to continue supporting young people leaving care and working in partnership to make homes safe, practical and comfortable.
