“Do we have to leave, I hate to go, it hurts to say goodbye”
“Dear Lillibet, it’s hard, I know, but we’re not here to question why”
“Daddy did it hurt you too, the day you left our home?
You were only fifty six, you’d barely yet begun?”
“My child it hurt so much to leave, you were both so young
But I taught you well, and knew you’d have support, from your beloved mum”
The wind is gently blowing as they stand beside the trees
Many royal families have danced beneath their leaves
Margaret is looking wistfully, she’s desperate to see her kin
She hugs her sister gently as they watch the brand new King.
“How will they cope without me, they’re moving far apart?
I wanted so very much for them, family are my heart,”
“Lillibet, they’re all here now, walking side by side
All of them adored you, even all the brides.”
“What about our children, they look so very sad?
Did this rip your heart apart, did you feel this bad?”
“Darling you’ve taught them everything, you’ve done your very best
Now it’s time for us to leave and you deserve a rest.”
Five figures softly turn away and take each other’s hands
They’ve had their times of living in a world of adjoining lands
Now they turn and look towards the home they share with God
With a tearful smile to the man she loves, he gives her his arm to hold.
