⭐️ Project Revisited - SW2 London Borough of Lambeth ⭐️

Back in February 2020 we put together a package of planning drawings for redeveloping this site in the London Borough of Lambeth. The 0.9Ha site consisted of three pre-fabricated single storey buildings, that previously offered rehabilitation to young people, but had been vacated for some time. Working as a team with Planning, Tree, Highways, Landscape and Ecology consultants, planning approval was granted in November 2020. The site was sold with the benefit of planning, and the construction side was dealt with by others, but the new scheme now complete and occupied, follows the planning design and has created 4no: 5 bedroom family homes, and a Class D1 community facility.

⭐️ Planning Approval Secured – Variation of Condition ⭐️

We’re delighted to share that Dorset Council approved the application for a Variation of Condition, allowing changes to a scheme for a first floor extension to a property in Blandford Forum.

Construction works are progressing rapidly on site and we look forward to seeing the project completed over the coming months.

⭐️ Planning Approval Secured – Lucy’s Blandford ⭐️

We’re delighted to share that Dorset Council approved the application for new windows and kitchen extract unit, allowing Lucy’s Blandford to relocate within Tabernacle Walk in Blandford Forum. Lucy’s Blandford is a local business, established in Unit 8 Tabernacle Walk in 2017. It is a family run business, offering brunch, tea, coffee, homemade cakes, with seating inside & outside and a takeaway service available. It has successfully grown and established itself as a primary location for many locals and visitors to Blandford. As part of its growth it wishes to move across Tabernacle Walk into units 2 and 3, which will give a bigger space from which to operate.
Despite it being a relatively simple proposal, it still required a planning application, and that in itself wasn’t without it’s difficulties and delays through the LPA requiring bat surveys, and the Environmental & Conservation Officers raising some concerns that required swift and suitable responses. Nonetheless, at MDS Ltd, we’re committed to delivering professional, high-quality results without ever compromising on integrity or value for money - and are delighted we managed to obtain the approval for Lucy, and wish her continuing success.

We have this week completed the RIBA Principal Designer Course (CDM Regulations & Building Regulations) Spring 2026

This was over 10 hours of webinar based learning, incorporating

* Health, safety and wellbeing
* Legal, regulatory and statutory compliance

This has allowed us to sharpen up our essential skills and knowledge, allowing us to demonstrate understanding and competence under CDM and the Building Regulations.

Projects small or large, domestic or commercial, all require professional, qualified and experienced design teams in place from the inception of construction projects.

You need to know that the new Building Safety Act (BSA) applies to nearly all domestic building projects in England and Wales. Under the new Act, homeowners are classified as Domestic Clients. Because they are not undertaking the work for business purposes, legal responsibility for Building Regulations compliance automatically transfers to the appointed Principal Designer and Principal Contractor.

There is an onus on everyone to ensure they have the experience and qualifications to do the job correctly.

⭐️ Project Progress ⭐️

We obtained Planning Approval in May 2023 and then retained for Principal Designer Services in January 2025, with construction works starting on site in April last year.

We revisited the site last week and were delighted to see these 7 new family homes, in Somerset, approaching completion, and the developer providing a high finish and spec internally.
