Do You Know What Your Carpet Is Made Of? Wool, synthetic, or another natural fibre?
If you’re not sure, I highly recommend finding out. Knowing what type of carpet you have could save you from causing permanent staining or damage when accidents happen.
☕ Coffee on a Wool Carpet? Here’s Why It’s Different…
(This coffee stain was reported to us immediately before any DIY cleaning was attempted, which is exactly why we achieved the results shown in the photo.)
Many people assume all carpets are the same, but wool carpets are very different from synthetic carpets and require specialist care.
Wool is a natural fibre. It’s luxurious, durable, and excellent at disguising everyday soiling. However, it is also more absorbent than most synthetic fibres and can be sensitive to the wrong cleaning products.
When coffee is spilled on a synthetic carpet, there is often a good chance of successful stain removal with the correct treatment. With wool, the coffee can pe*****te deeper into the fibres and, if treated incorrectly, can result in permanent staining, colour loss, or fibre damage.
This is where many DIY stain removal attempts go wrong.
Using supermarket stain removers, vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, washing-up liquid, or other home remedies can:
❌ Strip colour from the fibres
❌ Damage wool dyes
❌ Leave sticky residues that attract more dirt
❌ Permanently alter the appearance of the carpet
❌ Cause fibre damage
❌ Turn a removable stain into permanent damage
Many off-the-shelf stain removers contain bleaching agents or chemicals that are unsuitable for wool. In some cases, what people believe is a stubborn coffee stain is actually damage caused by the products used to remove it.
A wool carpet is an investment. Just like a quality suit or a delicate wool jumper, it needs the correct care and treatment.
If you spill coffee on a wool carpet:
✅ Blot immediately with a clean white towel
✅ Avoid scrubbing
✅ Don’t apply multiple cleaning products
✅ Seek professional advice as soon as possible

Remember: Not all carpets are the same. The wrong product on the wrong fibre can do far more damage than the original spill.
