Not every electrical asset needs a planned maintenance visit. For many sites, the practical question is simpler: when something stops working, who fixes it, and what has been agreed in advance?

That is the thinking behind fix on fail maintenance. Work is triggered by a reported fault rather than a fixed inspection schedule, but it only works well when the basics are agreed before anything fails.

Clients ask for it because they know what is covered and what is not, the response expectations are set for their site rather than assumed, and every visit is recorded so asset records stay useful.

We are also clear about the limits. We do not promise one standard response for every site or technology. Arrangements are agreed around the equipment and how critical it is to your operation, and where an asset is operationally critical, planned inspection is usually the better route.

No driveway? You can still charge at home.

As of 21st October 2026, new planning rules in England mean homeowners who park on the street can now fit a home charge point without a separate planning application.

The key is a pavement cable channel. As long as your local highways authority approves it, you no longer need planning permission as well.

For terraced streets across the North West, where a driveway is often the exception rather than the rule, that makes home charging far more achievable.

We are working in partnership with Kerbo Charge to make it happen. Their channel sits flush within the pavement, giving your cable a safe route from your home to your car. Our OZEV authorised engineers then install, test and certify the charge point behind it.

A few things to know:

• The rules cover channels built into the pavement, not cable mats or overhead arms.
• Listed buildings and conservation areas still need planning permission.
• The Households with On-Street Parking Grant can take up to £500 off your charge point, subject to eligibility.

That includes business and insurance details, accreditations, qualifications and role-specific competence, safety information and previous performance. The checks are proportionate to the work, but they are never skipped.
