Pleased to say that I passed my NPTC Windblown Trees course in Norfolk. Hard to get on these courses as it requires (strangely) actual windblown trees. The shed on steroids was where I stayed which was very pleasant.

The image of the cut stump is a type of cut called a V-Cut which allows for a controlled fell of a tree that is heavily leaning without it breaking suddenly in an uncontrolled way.

Chainsaw trousers in this heat is utterly horrible.

I recently had the lawn mowers serviced which is a great thing to do and was thoroughly evangelised about fuel by the mechanic. As such, I have officially moved over to using Aspen fuels. If you are going to use Petrol then Aspen is the cleanest, least polluting fuel you can possibly get with fewer emissions. It also helps the engines run better ensuring a longer lifespan.

A fairly frenetic day partially removing a large dead Birch tree. This required council permission which was granted. As the tree was dead I used climbing spikes to ascend it so no long ropes. Whereupon you literally remove it piece by piece from the top down. Slow and tiring but I got to stop about two metres up as we were leaving the remainder as monolith which provides a lot of ecological benefit.

What to do when the pickup is having a service and garden work needs doing? Go on the bike... definitely a reduced tool set but things got done. The Street Triple was parked up against an original Hyabusa (which appears camera shy for some inexplicable reason).

A serious case of arterial clogging in the Sucker/Blower... This is what happens when you try to eat mud and the analogy between it and eating good foot seems apt. The shredder/blower is great and saves me huge amounts of time and really helps leave client's gardens looking neat but once this happens you need to stop, remove the cover and clean it thoroughly (which can take a while) and requires prying off hard caked mud. The trusty bog brush is actually for pots but felt appropriate...

Decided to save the bother of unloading the chipper... defitely a few refinements to make but the principle is solid. The Stihl sucker/blower (yes that is how people actually refer to it) dealt with the rest... One Yew hedge with a dash of Cherry πŸ’ tree 🌳 on top...

This old Willow had been pollarded once too often and needed to come down in a very beautiful Oxfordshire garden. Once over, whole sections revealed themselves to be completely rotted away and you can see where trunk sections have fused into each other. Trying to bring this over with a 16inch bar proved educational.

Two "Wildlife" encounters in a single garden in Cumnor Hill whilst talking through a potential job. There were two Frogs in this little pond and they seemed un-fussed about having a camera up close to them. I'm not sure which type of Frog though... The Common Frog? Clearly the Wildcats of Cumnor have been having it easy given the relaxed way this fellow sauntered across the garden.

If this was an eye contest, who would win?

An interesting training day improving my knowledge and safety skills of these beasts. The 750kg version can be towed on a normal license and are both versatile and extremely powerful. Lots of safety aspects to be aware of to avoid "being eaten" to use the instructors words, not mine...

These fellows starting popping up a while back. Initially just a few, then a few more and then a deluge. Considering that there is a Norwegian Maple (Acer Platanoides) in the garden, fi*****ng the miscreant did not take excessive amount of detective work. I've been finding them some way distant which is made possible by the Samara (Winged Fruit) allowing effective airborn distribution. You can see in some of the images the parts of some Samaras which have not detached.

I am pulling them up en masse and it is not hard to tug out the seedling and roots if you are not to sudden. I am keeping a few though and might see if they could be relocated somewhere suitable.
