Some projects stay with you. This is one of them. 🔥

Harriet spent a year with us as part of her placement from Bournemouth University, and she was brilliant.

When she left, we had no idea she’d come back with something like this.

For her final year project, Harriet designed a concrete tabletop fire pit. A piece built around the idea of fire as a symbol of warmth and safety. A way to bring families together, spark conversation, and keep relationships growing.

She chose concrete for its versatility. Its colours, textures, and natural feel, reminiscent of the stones that gather around a fire. And along the way, she carried something else from her time here: a commitment to sustainability.

Concrete, reimagined as something deeply human.

Every wall tells a story. This one started with timber.

Using high-quality, sustainably sourced and kiln-dried Silver Birch trunks as the mould, we crafted a concrete wall that captures the natural texture of the wood in every detail. The result? A wall that carries the memory of the wood that shaped it.

Why GRC over traditional concrete?

Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) allows for much thinner casting than traditional concrete, which helps cut down on transportation, handling, and installation costs — not to mention a smaller carbon footprint.♻️

It can also be cast in larger sections, meaning fewer joints and a cleaner design.

At MASS Concrete, we offer both Pre-Cast GRC and traditional concrete — all crafted in-house at our Bournemouth factory. Each piece is hand-poured, finished with care, giving you consistent quality.
