Two different Alters for the same card.

The first alter is my adaptation of a design inspired by Egyptian Mythology. I have painted the Goddess Isis who was believed to have great powers in Magic and Healing: Described as “more clever than a million gods,” she famously used her unparalleled magical abilities to piece together the dismembered body of Osiris and breathe life back into him. She is heavily invoked for protection, healing the sick, and safeguarding children.

For the second alter I have retained the card’s original illustration but I have meticulously reproduced a vintage frame.
This was quite a challenging exercise! Many prefer the older style frames over the modern versions, so I will attempt all of them soon!

This card has soo many details and so it wasn’t the easiest to work on but I chose it because I think the original illustration is really captivating.

I chose this card to alter because I loved the colour scheme and the water and fire elements battling each other. There is a lot of energy in this card and it is like if Hydroblast and Pyroblast were featured together.💙🩵🤍🧡💛❤️

Murmuring Mystic - border extension with text box add on.

This card is a popular Blue MTG card first printed in the Guilds of Ravnica set, uniquely known for its striking, atmospheric artwork by illustrator Mark Winters.

I wanted to paint this card several times before but I couldn’t work out how I wanted it altered. Today I finally got to grips with it and I am happy with the result, especially for the added crow; his name is Gregg 💙

Challenging card for me as I find it easier to paint things that I have seen or experienced… like fairies, mermaids and elves 🙈😂😂

Jokes aside, explosions and lightning bolts are much harder for me to envision and capture naturally. But here’s my best attempt, today at least ✨

After a couple of alters set in idillic scenarios, I felt I had to bring some balance back to my work display with a far darker theme.

I will never get tired of altering cards illustrated by the legendary Rebecca Guay. Extending her delicately intricate masterpieces is always a challenge, but it’s incredibly rewarding — and I absolutely love the process. 💕

Rebecca Guay is one of the most celebrated and recognizable fantasy illustrators in the history of Magic: The Gathering. She has illustrated over 150 unique cards, building a massive fan-following for her distinct, whimsical style that blends classical Renaissance techniques with Pre-Raphaelite romanticism. Using soft watercolours and intricate linework, her art heavily features ethereal beings, nature spirits, and powerful, graceful depictions of femininity.

The « Persecute Artist » Controversy
In 2003, a major fan movement sparked after word spread that Wizards of the Coast’s art direction was shifting toward an edgier, heavily digital look, and that Guay was allegedly told her style was « too feminine » for the upcoming Mirrodinblock. The community rallied fiercely in her support. In response, Wizards of the Coast openly acknowledged the fan love by mocking themselves in the un-set Unhinged with the card Persecute Artist—the card text explicitly banned any artist chosen by the player, and the artwork (painted by Guay herself) poked fun at the entire controversy. She returned to illustrate many more mainstream cards afterward.
