Exposed beams are usually something a house inherits but in this rear extension, they were specified from the start.

With the kitchen now going in beneath them, you can see why. Wall unit heights, the extractor and the lighting runs have all been set around the timber, so the beams look like part of the building's structure.

Next we are adding the fixtures and worktops. Then followed by the finishing details.

We're currently building a dormer conversion in Bracknell, creating a new master bedroom and ensuite, with the extension continuing over the existing garage.

The aim is to make the most of the space already available, while creating a private, considered master suite that feels like a natural part of the home.

The dormer gives us the opportunity to transform the proportions of the existing roof space, while the ensuite adds the level of comfort you would expect from a well-designed master suite.

Farmhouse beams usually come with an old house, but in this rear extension, we're building them in.

The beams were on our customer's wish list from the start. Now that the skylights and glass doors are fitted, you can see why - the daylight falls straight across them and gives the room real character before a single cupboard has gone in.

It's still a shell for now, with the kitchen and utility to come, but the feel of the room is already there.
