Match report Lychett Matravers Galaxy v Bridport Youth under 12s sponsored by Magna Housing and O'brien Roofing LTD.

Bridport were in league action this weekend in some very testing conditions. Team today, Archie, Reuben, Seth, Benjamin, Guppy, Harry, Oli, Riley, James and Peter.

Bridport were slightly low on confidence with the way recent games have gone so today was a must win to help get them back to where they deserve to be. And this showed from the very first minutes of the game with every single player looking up for the challenge in the heaven rain showers.

So it was no surprise that it was Bridport that took early command taking the game to Lychett. Sticking to the game plan and finding players in space the chances started to flow naturally. Oli and Harry playing on the wings putting in some lovely crosses but unfortunately those chances just going missing. At the other end though it was Mr reliable Archie with the help of Reuben, Seth and second half Guppy, pulling off some defending and brilliant saves to stop the odd chance that fell to the Lychett attack in the opening 10-15 minutes.

The pressure from Bridport then told with Riley finding the ball free at his feet and with a great strike from 20 yards out going in off the post getting them on there way. This then really helped settle the nerves and it was the same player again finding the scoresheet and taking the team into a commanding lead.

Unfortunately though Bridport then seemed to switch off and get complacent, as though they found themselves ahead they then seemed to take there foot off the pedal and through some slight lacks in concentration and a penalty decision the hosts found themselves back in the game and the sides back even at the break.

With a massive reset from the team at half time the coaches asked them to go back out there and play the way they did in the opening 15-20 mins, and that they did. With many chances falling to both sides it was turning into a fantastic game for the parents despite being soaked through. With the game level and a Lychett player clean through on goal Benjamin made an amazing last ditch sliding tackle to block which looked like a certain goal which even impressed the hosts manager. With that Bridport then picked the ball up and through some quick passing through the lines from Guppy, Harry, Peter and James went straight up the other end and it was the same player again, Riley smashing the ball home from close range to get his hat-trick.

This didn’t stop the pressure though from the hosts but some great defending this time from Seth cut off another great chance standing firm.
With the game getting near its end there was still some time for another goal and deservedly it went to Bridport. With the team not holding out for the win they pushed on to stop any chance of another comeback. This time James didn’t give up on a lose ball near the corner flag, and he whipped in a cross which caused a scramble and yet again the ball found the feet of Riley who managed to get a shot away and it kindly found the back of the net and settling the tie.

Coaches comments “ Today was a big game for us, the team responded to the pre game team talk which really seemed to have the desired effect on the whole team. From the off every single one of them didn’t stop in what was horrible wet conditions and some of their football was just brilliant to watch at times. Massively impressed, as again we had some players playing in different rolls and they adapted to them fantastically and got on with the task in hand. Player of the match was close between a couple of players aswell as the whole team, but it has to go to Riley, as he was just fantastic today, straight from the off he seemed to have that extra energy and desire to win. Scoring 4 goals is no easy task and he took them all very well which got the team up and running and really helped give them the confidence they needed. Well done Riley”.
“We also just wanted to say well done to all the team as they must have been absolutely freezing in the rain but kept going and never moaned once. Also thank you to parents for coming and standing in it with them and cheering them on right till the end”.
