Yesterday we had the pleasure of working in a beautiful property dating back to the 1700s, sweeping four chimneys. 🏡🧹
All four chimneys have now been swept and cleaned — but that doesn't necessarily mean they're ready to have a fire lit.
As you can see from the photos, some of these wonderful old fireplaces have missing, damaged and deteriorated components and masonry that will need further attention.
The customer was advised of the visible issues and that the affected fireplaces shouldn't be used until they've been properly assessed and the necessary remedial work carried out.
It's an important reminder that a clean chimney and a safe, serviceable fireplace are two different things.
With properties this old, you never quite know what you're going to find — and that's part of what makes the job interesting!
