๐ƒ๐š๐ฐ๐ง joined us over a year ago on a part-time basis, just to โ€œgive it a goโ€ at My Cabin. Fast forward a little whileโ€ฆ and letโ€™s just say sheโ€™s now here full-time, fully converted, and absolutely part of the family.

Weโ€™re still not entirely sure when the switch happened, but somewhere between a shift at Asda, coffee pick up from Starbucks Drive Through and a shift at My Cabin, she realised something important: ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐žโ€™๐ฌ ๐จ๐ง๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐Ž๐๐„ ๐Œ๐ฒ ๐‚๐š๐›๐ข๐ง ๐’๐œ๐จ๐ญ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ ๐Ÿฅ‡

Dawn's positive attitude, fantastic customer service, and ability to brighten the office have made her an absolute star. Ironically, after spending years collecting stars at Starbucks, she's ended up becoming one of the biggest stars at My Cabin instead ๐Ÿ’ซ

Although we're still not sure she's fully forgiven us for convincing David to join My Cabin rather than serving Lattes to customers ๐Ÿ˜‰โ˜• Rumour has it she once suggested David should go work for Starbucks instead of My Cabinโ€ฆ though ironically, she ended up convincing herself (and only herself needed convincing) that My Cabin was the ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ฒ choice. David, meanwhile, stayed exactly where he was, largely out of stubbornness and a ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜„ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€.

Dawn is famously bubbly, endlessly funny, and somehow always smiling - even more so when sheโ€™s outselling David..

These are the first two log cabins we have recently replaced at a campsite after the original structures reached the end of their life far sooner than anyone expected.

The previous cabins were built only 15 years ago, but unfortunately they suffered from a number of fundamental issues from day one. They were constructed on an unsuitable foundation, which allowed moisture to attack the structure from below, causing the cabins to rot from the ground up. Being uninsulated, they also required constant and costly maintenance to remain usable.

The problems didn't stop there. The cabins ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—น๐˜ ๐˜‚๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿฌ๐—บ๐—บ ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ด ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐˜€ ๐˜„๐—ถ๐˜๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜ ๐—ฒ๐˜…๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜€๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป. Over the years, moisture affected the timber, and the roof beams began to bow under load. Steel support frames eventually had to be installed just to keep the buildings standing for a little longer.

In the end, there was only one sensible solution: complete replacement.

Having learned an expensive lesson, our clients knew exactly what they wanted this time. A log cabin that would be built correctly, perform efficiently, and stand the test of time, so they contacted us to deliver a long-term solution rather than another short-term fix.

When choosing a cabin, it's important to look beyond the headline specification. Thicker logs alone are not a substitute for a properly engineered building envelope. A well-designed insulated wall system provides better thermal performance, greater structural stability, improved comfort, and significantly better long-term durability.
