October 2020 – How much should a patio cost?

Getting a clear idea of cost is difficult as you will be paying for a service as well as goods.
Of course, you have to factor in the choice of materials and the amount of excavation that will be required.
An average patio installed by a reputable company will cost in the region of £100-£175 per square metre. The price may well decrease as the size of the area increases. Of course, you must factor in the choice of materials and the amount of excavation that will be required (particularly sloped areas), access to the site and many other factors, like VAT. Some paving companies are not registered for VAT which will reduce the overall bill by some 20%.
Do not be surprised to see large price differences between quotes. In most cases, this is often due to investments into a fully employed workforce (not sub-contractors), training, insurance, accreditations and warranties and the aforementioned VAT.
