It was certainly a steep learning curve for us! What did we opt for? - ceiling spot lights x9 on a dimmer - pendant lights x2 over island on dimmer - strip light under cabinet lights x2 on dimmer - cooker hood spots x 2 - side return spot lights x 4 on dimmer - lamp by side of sofa. What did we learn? ✅ The importance of having different sources of light for different activities I.e. food prep, eating, relaxing. AND being able to adjust this via a dimmer switch, which is great for creating different moods. ✅ How to ‘layer’ light 💡 A great analogy for this is fashion. An outfit all in one colour I.e a plain black dress with no accessories could be likened to a pendant light. However, add a scarf, bag, belt and shoes to the dress and it completely changes the outfit! Adding and subtracting these items creates a different look and mood. This is just the same with lighting, adding a combination of different lighting types creates different moods and supports different activities in that space. ✅ Choose light switch plates with screws if you have an older property, where the walls are less likely to be completely flat. Your electrician will thank you for it 😁 ✅ Colour of white light. Who knew the colour can vary so much! We opted for warm white light. We thought cool white light was very blue and felt a bit cold 🥶 but obvs it’s personal preference. Once you’ve chosen warm or cold, consider sourcing from the supplier as even one type of light can vary from supplier to supplier we found. There’s more on our stories & blog. Have a great day x
