I’ll take being ā€˜quween’ for the day.

When Mother’s Day coincides with the weather being good enough to spend all day in the garden - making dens, cooking rhubarb crumble and admiring those spring blooms.

Happy Mother’s Day to all those who mother in whatever guise that comes šŸ’›

When we first found out I was pregnant with Rudy, we set about painting this room white, finding a cot and filling it with colourful prints. However when we did the big renovation work on the house Rudy’s entire ceiling fell in (don’t start me on that) so the entire room need redecorating. He was also three and a half when we moved back in so it felt like the perfect time to update the room anyway.

I knew I wanted to introduce some green into the room as his room faces onto the garden so we painted the skirting, picture rail, window and built in shelves in Calke Green and I found this playful fabric on for the blind. Then, by chance posted in her stories about these Babar prints in a vintage store in Brighton. I rushed down and bought the pair and that was really the starting point for his room. I found the wooden sleigh beds on and and then slowly built upon that, with quilts and harlequin cushions.

As with most children there are a lot of ā€˜things’ so I love the shelves by the bed to house his collections over the years - super things, animals, Lego and now mainly football trophies. Oh and the vintage boat is my absolute favourite.

I’m still on the hunt for a large rug for between the beds - I’m thinking red and white striped and I’m thinking the hector lights that used to hang either side of our bed will be perfect by each bed (just need to actually get that sorted 🫠) Oh and finally need to find a larger bedside chest or chest of drawers for between his beds…

And hidden behind the door is a whole wall of cork squares FILLED with football posters, medals, drawings and luckily you can’t see any of it until you walk in šŸ˜‚. Any questions let me know, hope you like it.

Had the best morning studio trying on the new Spring collection. I met Ellen 10 years ago when we were the first store to see her first collection. From the minute we saw how beautiful the pieces were we knew that our customers would love it because I did!

Unlike many brands who claim to be sustainable - Ellen truly works hard to source sustainably, work in ethical ways and only produce in small quantities to reduce waste and surplus stock (not that there ever is much because her collections sell out time and time again!)

So when Ellen asked if I’d like to come to the studio to take a peek at the new collection (that launched yesterday) I was so excited. As ever, the collection focuses on what sideline is known for - beautifully crafted, thoughtful pieces that will last and last and are wearable all year. Sideline has a strong focus on indigo and denim with quilted jackets and patchwork a mainstay in the collections.

My personal style is quite laid back, earthy colours, styles with a masculine or slightly oversized shape and I always buy with my wardrobe in mind so I’ll always think about how often I’ll wear something and what it could work with. Sideline is one of those brands that you know you’ll get lots of wear from.

I took a long some of my most worn and beloved pieces to style with the collection - my tee, neckerchie and clogs and jellies - just to show how easy it is to style up Sideline pieces.

I’ve listed below the pieces I tried (more on stories) and you can head to website now to shop the full collection and see it on actual models rather than me! Oh and next weekend Ellen is hosting an open studio so you too can visit her beautiful studio and try on pieces in real life (she’s based in Lewes).

Dawn Jacket - embroidered indigo
Frankie Dress - red check
Orla trousers - indigo
Wilf shirt - red check
Minty skirt - khaki
Tilsy trousers - khaki
Merry bag - indigo patchwork

The joy this brings me each year and to hear my kids shouting ā€˜they’re coming mum’ is just so special.

The starling murmuration over Brighton pier happens every year between November to March and is simply mesmerising, and if you catch a sunset too then what a win.
