Nice to see this kitchen starting to take shape been a few problems to get over mainly the sub floor that was not structurally suitable for the kitchen, so we ripped out the old one and replaced it with a new one

Project Update: Kitchen & Dining Area Renovation 🛠️ ✨

We recently responded to a call-out by a local builders regarding a large kitchen and dining area where several external walls had been severely compromised by damp.

Here is how we tackled the job:

Damp Remediation:
Stripped all the compromised render back to the brickwork on the external walls.

Weatherproofing:
Applied a heavy-duty, two-coat waterproof render, devil-floated and prepped to provide a solid, smooth base ready for plastering.

Structural Improvements:
Addressed the bay window wall by installing a new Damp Proof Course (DPC), a vapour barrier, and precision stud work.

Laying the Foundation:
Square out the layout of the kitchen to improve the overall space and clean up some of the original walls' historical quirks.

🛠️ Structural Integrity Comes First:

Recent Kitchen Renovation Update
When planning a high-end kitchen renovation—especially one featuring heavy quartz worktops weighing up to 500 kg—ensuring the underlying floor structure is solid isn't just important; it's essential.

During a recent project, we uncovered a severely compromised and structurally unstable subfloor. Instead of proper support, the previous installation relied on plastic packers and freestanding stones held up without cement.
Our team immediately stepped in to put things right before installing any new cabinetry or worktops:

Complete Removal: We safely stripped out the inadequate timber and unstable makeshift supports.

Upgraded Framework: We replaced the old 6-inch timber with robust 10-inch wall plates and 8-inch joists.

Heavy-Duty Anchoring: Joists were securely tied to the wall using M10 threaded bars, nuts, washers, and high-strength chemical anchor resin, paired with professional jiffy hangers.

Maximum Stability: We added two extra 6-inch timbers running underneath for ultimate load-bearing capacity, securely seated on solid concrete pads.

By refusing to cut corners, we’ve ensured this new kitchen has a rock-solid foundation that will last for decades to come.

Weekend Project Update: Complete Kitchen Prep ✨

Another kitchen transformation in progress! Before fitting any units, our team handled some serious prep work to ensure a flawless, long-lasting finish:

Leveling the Ceiling: The old lath and plaster ceiling was over 50mm out of level. We installed a new, perfectly level framework,
completed all electrical work,
fitted fresh plasterboard, and cut out 8 spotlight holes.

Damp Remediation & Rendering: We hacked back damp-affected internal walls to 1.3m right down to the brickwork, applied a high-performance waterproof render backing coat, devil-floated the surface, and left it ready for plastering.

We are officially underway turning this space into a stunning open-plan kitchen, which involves removing a central half-wall, damp proofing the external walls, installing a suspended ceiling with modern spotlights, laying fresh LVT flooring throughout, and finishing up with full plastering so it's 100% ready for us to fit the brand-new kitchen—make sure to watch this space for progress updates!
