A short news update -our project with Docklands Youth Centre was recently featured in Bristol Post, and our ecohomes project in Brockley is shortlisted for residential solar & storage project of the year.

Meanwhile we have been appointed to prepare options for a new low-energy community centre by a local council near Bristol, and are starting working on a project for a new Passivhaus Home in a fabulous woodland setting teeming with wildlife in Somerset.

They hope for it to come into fruition as soon as possible

Self build eco-home in North Somerset

Latest pictures as Field House nears completion. The owners have been busy taking this project through to create their dream home.

This is the first of a pair houses that we achieved planning in 2017 for Solarsense, notwithstanding the initial opposition from the planners.

The house is designed to maximise south facing roof area for energy generation with solar pv. This helped to created a stunning double height living space and gallery. The roof is brought right down to the ground in the form of a timber ‘parasail’ that encloses the south facing terrace outside the living area. Large picture windows are designed to take advantage of the countryside views.

The construction is of a highly insulated slab and prefabricated timber frame by MBC -time to erect on site measured in just days. The twin wall construction with cellulose insulation delivers u-values to passivhaus standard, and careful application of a sealed internal membrane delivers high airtightness.

Space heating is achieved through air source heat pump that connects to underfloor heating, as well as providing hot water. Mechanical ventilation and heat recovery ensures high air quality and captures heat as air is extracted.

Fairash Farm, North Somerset
Some images of our project to convert a former poultry farm into two magnificent ‘Grand Design’ eco-homes.

Two of the original timber-framed sheds are being retained and re-imagined to form two complimentary, low energy courtyard houses.

Each house has five bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, and a large open-plan living area with fantastic views across the open countryside towards Chew Valley Lake. Remnants of the central sheds are used to create ancillary parking barns and separate live-work studios.

The homes are timber clad on timber frame, with new roof trusses in timber and stainless steel. The structure allows for a combination of large picture windows and roof lanterns to give maximum light to the interior. They have high levels of insulation and airtightness to minimise energy demand. Heating and ventilation will be controlled using mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR) alongside air source heat pumps (ASHP). Energy demand is further reduced by the roof mounted solar PV panels.

As soon as the lock down ends, we will add some actual photos of work on site.
