🌞 A Little Update from Oliver’s Locks Bromsgrove

It’s been a quieter week on here — and that’s simply because I’ve taken a bit of time away to enjoy some proper quality time with my family. With the boys off school and the weather behaving itself for once, it’s been great to switch off, recharge, and make some memories.

A huge thank you to everyone who has messaged or called me while I’ve been off. I really appreciate your patience and the kindness you’ve shown. Even when I’m taking a short break, it means a lot knowing people trust me enough to wait until I’m back on the tools.

🎉 Celebrating 1 Year of Oliver’s Locks Bromsgrove

Today marks one year since I launched Oliver’s Locks Bromsgrove, and what a year it’s been. Busy, challenging, rewarding — and genuinely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Like any new business, you start out waiting for the phone to ring, wondering when that first job will come in. Looking back now at those early callouts, it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come. From simple lock changes to complex gearbox repairs, emergency callouts, servicing, upgrades, and everything in between — every job has helped shape the business into what it is today.

I want to say a huge thank you to my family, who have supported me every step of the way. Their encouragement, patience, and belief in me have been incredible, and I truly couldn’t have done this without them.

🔧 A Busy & Varied Week at Oliver’s Locks

It’s been another full week with a real mix of jobs — the kind that keeps things interesting and reminds me why I love what I do.

We started with a couple of door alignment issues, both caused by doors drifting out of position over time. A proper service and adjustment made a huge difference, leaving customers with smooth, easy‑to‑use doors again.

Mid‑week included a job for a landlord after a new tenant moved in. I carried out a mortice lock change and rim cylinder replacement, making sure everything was secure and up to standard for the new arrival.

There were also a few emergency callouts.
We've also had a door with broken parts inside the gearbox. Once opened up, the damage was clear — but with the right parts and a careful approach, everything was repaired and made safe again.

Alongside the hands‑on work, I’ve been quoting upcoming jobs, helping customers plan ahead for repairs, upgrades, and servicing.

With the summer holidays in full swing, today was a little different — my eldest joined me on the road, taking everything in as we worked through a busy morning of jobs.

First stop was in Bromsgrove, replacing a 5‑lever mortice lock, fitting two new handle sets, and completing two cylinder changes to bring the door’s security up to scratch.

Next, we headed over to King’s Norton to swap a standard key cylinder for a thumbturn. The door had a slight alignment issue too — nothing major, and with a few careful adjustments it now closes smoothly without needing that extra shove.

Finally, it was back to Bromsgrove to open up a set of old wooden French doors. We got them open cleanly, secured the property, and ordered the new parts ready for fitting.

A busy day, but a good one — and even better with my son by my side learning the trade.

🔧 A Busy Week at Oliver’s Locks – Plus a Note About Next Week

It’s been a full and varied week with plenty of jobs that kept me on my toes.

A couple of weeks ago I visited a customer to sort out some alignment issues on their back doors. While I was there, we also chatted about improving the security on their front door, and I talked them through a few solid upgrade options.

After looking at what would suit their home best, they decided to go ahead with a new 5‑lever British Standard deadlock — a proper secondary locking point that adds real strength and insurance‑approved protection to the door.

🔧 Composite Door Alignment Fix, Window Handle Replacement & Patio Lock Upgrade

Last week I visited a property to look at a composite door with alignment issues. The door had started to drop slightly, putting pressure on the mechanism, so we corrected the alignment on the day to get everything running smoothly again.

While there, the customer also mentioned they had broken window handles. The original style was no longer in production, so we talked through a few window handle options to find the closest possible match.

Yesterday we returned to fit the new window handles, giving the windows a clean, secure finish and restoring proper operation.

We also discussed lock security. Their patio door was still using a standard cylinder with no anti‑snap protection, so they chose to upgrade to a British Standard 1★ cylinder — a solid improvement that brings the door up to modern security standards.

A productive visit all round, with both cosmetic and security upgrades completed and a very happy customer.
