The householder wondered why the drain kept blocking - perhaps it was something to do with builders who constructed the extension breaking the pipe when excavating the foundations.. and to compound matters allowed concrete to run into the drain.
The customer kept his distance, although did show a healthy interest in the hole - turns out he’s an undertaker!

It's not very often that you find a householder who's blocked his drains with a pound of uncooked pork sausages - a wonderful old guy, whose 40-year old son had kindly sent him a TESCO's home shopping delivery which included the offending item.
His only comment being: "I've told my 'lad' I don't want sausages, so I flushed them down the toilet so he wouldn't see them in the bin"
The reaction of the 'lad' standing next to me as I fished them out of manhole was priceless!

Another crazy day of Drain Clearances, Repairs & CCTV Surveys .. plus yet again chasing these little fellas down a customer's drain with a camera to see how they were escaping into the house through a broken pipe.

Discovered this morning that the wife of the vicar should be addressed as the "wife of the vicar" and not the "vicar's wife" as he doesn't own her! It was a pleasure to be corrected by the wonderfully humorous wife of the vicar whose drains are now clear!

I think I may just send her one of these mugs! 🤟😀

“I’m 84 you know… and I’m still a virgin”.

A quick stop in a North Hull sandwich shop for lunch today. I’m standing waiting for my cheese, lettuce and cucumber on wholemeal to be being prepared when two cheeky older ladies walked in and started having a lot off to the staff.

“Do you want salad cream with your sandwich?” I was asked by one of the staff… I replied innocently that I would prefer a little Branston pickle if possible.

At this point one of the two old ladies moved up to me, smiled and looked directly at me before saying in a loud voice, “I’m 84 you know… and I’m still a virgin”.

I reacted in less than a second by kissing her on the cheek and saying, “Congratulations young lady, I hope you remain so!”

Her reaction was priceless and so was that of the others in the shop - I think I made her day and her New Year by the tears of laughter in her eyes… Priceless!

“I’m so happy to hear your voice and not a machine - are you working today?”
“Yes, or course.”
"I am so pleased, I’ve been trying to clear our drains and lost my drain rods down the line, we’re still blocked up, I’ve told all the neighbours not to flush their toilets …. Could you possibly come and help us?
“No problem, we’ll be with you in an hour or so.”
On arrival I asked him, how many drain rods he’d lost and what he had on the end…
“I had 12 and I’ve got 8 left, so I think 4 and the ‘curly prodder’ is on the end”
“I don’t suppose you know where the nearest manhole is?”
“Yes, it’s under the conservatory floor, we concreted over it as the builder said we’d never need to be in it…. We shouldn’t have done that should we?”
Needless to say, we soon had the drains clear and his rods retrieved .. not just 4, not 5, not 6 or 7, not 12 …. but 19. But no ‘curly prodder’ – that was still attached to one of the rods he hadn’t used!

An enormous thank you from all of us at 1-2 Clear for a brilliant year.

As 2025 comes to a close, we just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported, our customers, friends, suppliers and our staff – it’s been a pleasure to have helped so many people with drain issues throughout the year. As always, we’ve had many adventures along the way, met some great people and solved some interesting problems.

Thank you particularly to those who have recommended us to others, even if we first worked on your drains over 30 years ago. Your continued support means so much to us.

Here’s to a brilliant 2026 … and we’ll always be there if you need us 👊😃
