****** Announcement *******

After 8 years of trading as Barry Fowler Carpentry, I have decided to freeze/close down my company.

This certainly hasn't been an easy decision to make, but definitely something I need.

I have been in construction for 28 years.

25 as a Carpenter.

19 on a self employed basis.

As all of you would know, since the end of 2024 with my Dad retiring due to ill health.

And becoming a solo tradesman.

I have been fundraising and training for various running events.

This has given myself time to think over what I really want....... for myself.

Spent time thinking if I should employ an apprentice or team up with another Carpenter.

Both in the end I realise these are not for me personally.

This decision isn't financial or work load related.

And I still have a constant inbox of work!

As of.

October.

I will be going into employment, this will able me to take my foot off the pedal and allow some breathing space.

I have thought since Christmas, that I have been running out of steam.

I will obviously be loyal to all my current bookings in September.

I am at the "Never say Never" position.

Still love Carpentry and the construction industry.

But I think it's time I take a break from the stress and strain of the self employed state.

Thanks very much to all my past and present customers and all the support over the last 8 years.

Best wishes.

Barry, Lisa and family.

10.13 Miles.

Decided to push myself and up my weekend run a little bit more this morning.

Felt comfortable, although the last mile took slightly more effort.

Added in a Citrus and Mint running gel today Kendal Mint Co to get my stomach ready for any long distances events this year.

8.15 Miles today!

Was at 13 degrees when I left and 23 degrees roughly an hour later, so you can tell the change in conditions!

Felt good with no real pressure.

Thinking of upping my distance in a few weeks time. Maybe 10 to 12 Miles per run.

Just a case of keeping active and in decent shape!

This external project was carried out in Maids Moreton.

Changing 3 sides of this shed/garden room.

Removal and disposal of the existing loglap boards and replacement with new 5" shiplap cladding.

Using a breathable membrane for protection.

Light timber maintenance, before boarding took place, but overall the frame was solid.

Materials were supplied by.

Forge Timbers (Buckingham)

All painting and decoration will be carried out by the customer. Who is happy to take this project on.

8.16 Miles.

A lovely early morning run today!

Nice and steady pace.

Certainly glad I hit the pavements before the sun came over...... the last 20 minutes it was really hitting my head and back.

Unfortunately I wasn't selected for the 2027 London Marathon. I did enter the ballot.

To be completely honest, mixed emotions.

Disappointed that I won't be part of something which is an incredible occasion.

But happy that I can enjoy my running without the pressure and such obsession.

Congratulations to all who were successful, I look forward to following all your journeys.

I will definitely carry on promoting Mesothelioma UK

And have a few little fundraising ideas in mind for next year.

Also I have already entered 3 events to take part in.

8.12 Miles.

Bit of an overcast morning, but quite humid.

Temperature had risen from 19° when I hit the paths at 8.15 this morning to 21° only an hour or so later.

So you can tell the heat is still lingering.

Felt comfortable with my run again. Nice and steady pace.

3 or 4 other runners about.

8.08 Miles.

A lovely Sunday morning trot!

Although I set off at 7.50, the temperature was certainly rising. Very muggy and humid.

Beautiful clear skies.

A few cycling crews around, but not many other runners.

Once again it was lovely to get out treading pathways.

No better way to clear your head and start the day!

Buckingham Half Marathon 2026.

Lovely conditions for it today, with a slight breeze on the return section.

A few unexpected hills for me, so slightly more challenging than my usual flat routes.

Just a great feeling once again to get the heart pumping and my feet hitting the roads.

One final thing.

I dedicate this medal and Half Marathon to Dan Gibbs.

Happy Birthday mate! I hope wherever you are, you are happy and would be laughing your head off at me!

"Why the hell would you wanna run mate, you can drive!"

Much Love.
