This is Nan's house, a privately owned property within the Whalesborough resort and spa in bude, we were commissioned by our clients to undertake a comprehensive renovation of this property, both internally and externally, with a strong focus on creating a fully accessible and practical home without compromising on design or aesthetics.
A key element of the project was the introduction of full disabled access throughout the property. This included purpose-designed accessible ramps, flush thresholds and entrances, as well as a sunken hot tub integrated into the decking to provide easier access. We also reconstructed the balconies and created a fully accessible ground-floor bedroom, complete with an ensuite accessible wet room and a flush exit leading directly onto the stunning outdoor deck.
Externally, the property underwent a complete transformation. The existing elevations were fully stripped and re-clad using a combination of Millboard Shadowline Burnt Cedar cladding and a premium-quality rustic quartz stone panel system, the house was also treated to new aluminium windows and doors throughout.
The extensive 120m² deck was constructed using the Millboard Aluminium DuoSpan subframe system, finished with premium 170mm-wide Millboard Ashwood decking boards giving this deck a maintenence free life span that far exceeds any other deck available. The deck is wrapped in a marine grade stainless handrail leading to a flight of steps that take you to the lawn where you can see the underside of the deck is complimented by the same, stunning, rustic quartz stone.
The finished result is a striking blend of functionality, accessibility and high-end design, and is a project that everyone at Bude Carpentry & Building is exceptionally proud to have delivered.
We have always loved renovation projects, but being able to transform a property while incorporating such important accessibility requirements made this project especially rewarding. Creating a home that is both beautiful and genuinely accessible for our clients is something we consider a real privilege.
