🔥 Summer 2026 has brought an unprecedented level of wildfire activity across England and Wales.

By 16 August, fire and rescue services had already attended 1,132 wildfires, surpassing the entire 2025 total of 1,017.

July alone saw 458 wildfires, making it the busiest month on record, while prolonged hot and dry conditions continue to increase the risk across the country.

With 71.3% of England in drought as of 20 August, the recent change in weather doesn't mean the risk has disappeared. Dry ground and vegetation can remain highly susceptible to fire even after periods of rainfall.

For businesses, this is an important reminder that fire safety isn't seasonal. 🔥

Make sure your Fire Risk Assessment is up to date, appropriate control measures are in place, and everyone knows what to do in an emergency.

Great to see one of the five Hilton Harriers teams proudly sponsored by Gaskell Safety in pre-season action today! 💙

The U9s brought together players from both their Tornadoes 🌪️ and Hurricanes 🌀, alongside some fantastic new additions, to compete in the Albert Village Cup winning every game and bringing home the trophy! 🏆👏

At Gaskell Safety, we believe grassroots football is about so much more than what happens on the pitch. It helps young people develop important life skills including teamwork, confidence, resilience and friendship which is why we’re proud to support our local teams. ⚽️💙

On Friday evening, a severe alert was issued by the UK Government warning of a very high risk of wildfires. Where were you when everyone's phones started buzzing? 😅

The warning follows on from around three months of prolonged dry conditions, combined with repeated periods of hot weather, which have left vegetation and soils exceptionally dry.

🌧️ Although cooler temperatures and some light showers are forecast, this is unlikely to provide enough rainfall to significantly replenish moisture in the ground. Dry soils and vegetation can persist even after brief rainfall, meaning the wildfire risk remains high.

🔥 In these conditions, it can take only a small flame or spark for a fire to spread rapidly. Please avoid disposable barbecues, firepits, garden incinerators, fireworks and any other activity that could accidentally start a fire.

If you see signs of a fire, call 999 immediately and follow guidance from the emergency services and official authorities.

Please stay vigilant, act responsibly and help protect our communities, countryside, businesses and the emergency responders working to keep everyone safe.
