Here's a few pictures of a garden that I designed a few years ago, I popped in this week for a catch-up. My client has been doing a fab job in gardening and putting their own stamp on the space. Three years on, and this garden has truly found its rhythm 😍
What began as a blank canvas is now a layered, immersive garden designed to feel deeply connected to its surroundings — borrowing views from the rolling meadow beyond while creating intimate spaces closer to the house.
The timber structural framework help sub-divide the space and the geometry is softened by the multi-stem birches. The deep burgundy foliage anchors the horizon, and perennial planting creates movement, texture, and seasonal colour throughout.
The pergola terrace has settled naturally into the garden, becoming an outdoor room framed by planting rather than hard landscaping. Winding brick paths slow the journey through the space, leading to quieter moments — a reflective wildlife pond, a hidden seating deck, and ever-changing borders alive with pollinators.
One of the most rewarding parts of garden design is seeing how time completes the vision. Three years later, the balance between structure and softness is emerging exactly as intended: naturalistic, relaxed, and deeply rooted in the landscape around it. The client loves it, and so do we 😊
