A brilliant day at Decorex, where I joined a panel with Houzz to talk all things AI in design. It’s a hot topic and certainly controversial when it comes to the creative industry.

We were all on the same page - AI isn’t replacing creativity or human connection; it’s enhancing what we do. Used well, it helps us give clients more than ever before - better visuals, faster decisions, and a smoother process from start to finish.

The heart of what we do remains the same.

Our clients still want the personal connection.

Our trades still need to speak to someone human.

Design is, and always will be, about people, personality and soul ❤️

There’s still a lot to learn, but it’s exciting to see how this technology will grow alongside us as designers.

Loft Conversions: Don’t Miss This Crucial Design Step

Loft conversions can be an incredibly rewarding way to add both space and value to your home, but one common and costly oversight I often see is failing to maximise storage potential.

With sloping roofs, awkward ceiling heights, and irregular layouts, storage in lofts presents unique challenges, and if not planned properly, expensive ones too.

That’s why I always advise clients to consider storage from the very beginning of the project. Smart, bespoke storage solutions should be factored into your budget from the start, not treated as an afterthought. These tricky spaces call for custom thinking, not off-the-shelf answers.

We recently spoke about this in a feature on Houzz, where I shared insights on how to make the most of every inch in a loft conversion — from awkward alcoves to underused eaves. It’s something we specialise in at Sara Slade Interior Design.

Take this child’s lounging zone from one of our recent projects: what could have been an awkward pillar became an opportunity for illuminated, built-in bookshelves. The design not only solved a problem - it added personality and practical storage in a compact footprint.

As interior designers, one of our fundamental roles is to make sure furniture placement, flow, and storage are all meticulously considered. In loft conversions, this means ensuring the space remains functional and airy, not cramped or cluttered.

We design custom solutions for every space: under-bed drawers, bespoke cabinetry, hidden compartments, and clever shelving that turn even the quirkiest of corners into usable, beautiful features.

What a privilege it was to be invited to be involved in the Cambridge Young Women’s Conference. Not only did I meet so many amazing young women but I also learnt so much.
