Restoring a Grade II* listed building requires a huge amount of effort from all involved. Acting as the project manager, Cook & Cook were fortunate enough to take a lead role in the renovation and extension of this private residence. The project required extensive repairs to the timber frame, large parts of it dating back to the early 17th century. Traditional methods have been combined with modern products to navigate issues such as roosting bats in the roof.

We worked throughout the lockdown with Cambcol to assist with the essential conversion of a dilapidated building into a factory that produces hand sanitiser on an industrial scale. Our project in a village south of Huntingdon has started on site and we have discovered Roman remains. The archaeologists have been hard at work with many interesting finds; the most important being a coin with an image of the emperor Hadrian on dated at 1900 years old. We have also found pottery, animal bones and metalwork all in this era. The aim is to complete the archaeological dig this week, then we can progress with the main works constructing the new two storey dwelling.

Our design and build project for a new contemporary dwelling has started on site. The building has dark grey cement board at lower level and is finished to the upper façade with larch timber. The interior space is largely open plan with a stunning floating oak and glass staircase to the main atrium. The building will have triple glazing and sustainable heating will be provided through an air source heat pump.

After 4 years of hard work our client has finally opened his wonderfully unique dining experience in Fen Drayton. We were instrumental in gaining planning permission for the project and then provided building surveying services from technical drawings to alcohol licenses.
