Why is it still imperative to still have your boiler service if still seems to be working fine?

We were called to a routine service in Trumpington meadows this week to a ideal logic, customer had not complained about any issues with it at all.

Upon removing the case it was obvious straight away the boiler was classed as I.D. (immediately dangerous) and had been spilling carbon monoxide for some time.

This boiler had developed a hole inside its exhaust manifold and was blowing product of combustion (carbon monoxide) into the case severely burning the back of the computer board.

Secondly the seal on the heat exchanger was about 5 years past its replacement date and was in terrible condition, this was also causing carbon monoxide to spill into the boiler case itself.

We were lucky enough to carry all the parts needed to safety repair the appliance and had them safely up and running within the hour.

This boiler had be service yearly by another big company local in the Trumpington area, it's no secret that companies put unfair times and targets on their engineers to have jobs completed by, this could explain why this boiler was so poorly maintained over the years.

At Pro Service Plumbing and Heating and Trumpington meadows plumbing and heating specialist we always spend around a hour on any boiler service that is classed as a full strip down, we check all the deep components and flush the heat exchanger, this is classed as a deep clean that many of the bigger companies skip and yet were still better valve for money that them.
Because we're independent we don't have targets or profit margins the only thing important to us is doing the job correctly and to the highest possible standards

GAS LEAK

Yesterday during a routine service we found a gas leak on a home on a home within Trumpington meadows.

The gas escape was so bad that we had to shut the client off and cap the gas meter after consulting the gas safety board.

This home was one of the newer homes in the area.

This leak was unknown to the homeowner as their previous service engineers (a different local company) had not carried out a gas tightness test during their service and missed the immediately dangerous situation.

We were able to track and trace the leak to the rear of the property and get it fixed immediately our main priority was to get the client up and running again without having to go through the developers and their slow response times.

Our services are extremely in depth, there's no rules how far to go on a service for some companies its about being in and out as quickly as possible, NOT US! We're here to make sure things are done correctly.

This is a perfect example why you should never ignore the warning signs of a leaking boiler and carry out your yearly services.

We received a call from a client this week on Trumpington Meadows asking us to perform a boiler service as they had experience some issues with their system, they had not had a service carried out on the boiler or pressurised water tank for 10 years.

Upon arrival we found the following.

1, Water leaking from the bottom of the boiler case......... this is NOT water but infact carbon monoxide vapour (extremely dangerous) if your boiler is dripping liquid and its a ideal logic its most certainly Co and not water.
This causes the bottom of the inside of the case to rot through, once it's rotton through its game over.

2, carbon monoxide leaking from the combustion chamber where routine burner seals had not been replaced when they were due.

3, hole in the boiler case meaning it was no longer room sealed causing the leaking co to be pumped into the room.

4, heating was constantly on even though the wall thermostats were set to off, this is a fault due ti the signal box on the cylinder sending a incorrect signal back to the boiler causing boiler operation.

5, zero pressure on the hearing system (black needle showing 0) Running a heating system with no pressure causes the component to burn out very quickly.

6, No air pressure in the hot water (white) expansion vessel, this causes the tank to run out of room when heating up causing up to 15l of hot water a day to be discharged down a safety drain without your knowledge.

7, No air pressure in the heating expansion vessel, this causes upper floor radiators to fail to warm up and puts strain on heating pumps and boiler.

These issues were very apparent as soon as we arrived, we had to shut the boiler down as it was classed as Immediately dangerous and as gas engineers we have a duty of care towards our clients and their families.

Luckily for our client we carry almost everything on our van to rebuild an ideal logic and stock most components to fix a pressurised water cylinder.

After a few hours of in depth repairs we had the boiler and cylinder rebuilt and had them up and running (safely) again in no time.

PLEASE DONT IGNORE THE WARNINGS, IF YOUR BOILER IS LEAKING GET IT LOOKED INTO.
