I believe its a Far East design, but could be wrong. The top square is a lid revealing a small cavity.
Overall size is about 8" square by 3" to the bottom of the finial, the finial adds around 7-8".

Roughly turned this large ash today, measures 17" x 6 1/2", will be removing the checking and adding a walnut segmented rim. Should be ready in time for Sandwich festival 27th, 28th & 29th August 2022. That pile of shavings is only from this bowl, Wow.
