Not All Tree Decay Is Visible 🌳

At first glance, this mature beech tree looked like it still had plenty of life left in it. But those perennial bracket fungi at the base told us there could be more going on beneath the surface.

Time to bring in the PiCUS Sonic Tomograph. 👀

The scan revealed significant internal decay, confirming the tree was no longer structurally safe. With the risk of failure too high, the safest option was to remove it.

This Red oak (Quercus rubra) was sadly not in the best shape 🌳🍄
Honey fungus (Armillaria mellea) had caused extensive decay around the base, and there was also a significant amount of southern bracket fungus present too.

By this stage, there wasn’t really a way back for it 🪵
