There is something beautifully timeless about Cumbrian slate.

Quarried in the Lake District, this exceptional British stone has a distinctive natural character, with rich grey-blue and green tones that create a striking backdrop for carefully carved lettering and personal detail.

Its fine, smooth grain allows for intricate carving, while its strength, low water absorption and excellent resistance to the British weather make it a particularly enduring choice for a memorial. It is a stone that can retain its beauty for many years, even in more shaded or damp settings.

We know that understanding the cost of a memorial can feel daunting, particularly at a time when there are already so many decisions to make.

At Artisan Memorials, we believe families should have clear, straightforward information about headstone prices from the outset. The final cost will depend on the type of memorial, the stone selected, the size, the lettering, any carved artwork, and the installation requirements, but we are always happy to work with a budget and explain the options available.

Our current guide includes memorial plaques from £800, cremation headstones from £2,000, headstones and gravestones from £2,500, and traditional kerbed memorials from £4,500. Standard headstones can include the first 80 letters within the price, with bespoke sizes, designs and additional detailing available where required.

We also provide detailed written quotations, design visualisations and guidance on cemetery regulations, so families can understand what is involved before making any decisions. Payment is split, with 50% required once the design is finalised and the balance due when the memorial has been completed and installed.

Most importantly, we will always try to help you create a meaningful and lasting tribute within a budget that feels manageable.

Did you know that, although we are based in Kent and are well known for our bespoke memorial craftsmanship here in the South East, we also create and install a significant number of headstones and memorials for families across London?

We regularly work with families throughout the capital, creating completely bespoke headstones, gravestones and memorial plaques in a wide variety of natural stones, with individually designed lettering, inscriptions, carved motifs and personal details.

Our London work can include memorials for cemeteries such as the City of London Cemetery, Hendon Cemetery, Greenford Park Cemetery and Camberwell New Cemetery, as well as many other cemeteries and burial grounds across Greater London where new memorials are permitted.

Every cemetery has its own rules regarding the size, stone, style and installation of a memorial, so part of our service is helping families understand those requirements and guiding them through the necessary permissions before the memorial is created and professionally installed.

Most importantly, every headstone we make is designed around the person being remembered. Because no two lives are the same, we believe no two memorials should have to be either.
