1821. The year Mossfords was founded.

Cardiff in 1821 was a small market town of just a few thousand people. Cathays Cemetery would not open for another 38 years.
Cardiff would not become a city for another 84 years. It would not be declared capital of Wales until 1955.

And yet - Mossfords was already here. Serving families. Honouring lives. Crafting memorials that still stand in cemeteries across South Wales today.

Two centuries on, we are still on Cowbridge Road West, still serving the communities of Cardiff, still guided by the same belief that every person deserves to be remembered with dignity and craft.

Western Cemetery. Cathays. Thornhill. Barry. Penarth. Bedwas. Penyrheol. We know these places because we have cared for them - and the families who visit them - for over 200 years.

A question we are asked regularly: 'Do I need permission to put up a headstone?'

The short answer is: yes - and we handle all of this for you.

Each cemetery in Cardiff has its own rules and regulations about memorial size, stone type, and design. What is permitted at Thornhill Cemetery may differ from Cathays North, Western Cemetery, or Penarth.

As approved memorial masons with over 200 years of experience, Mossfords knows the requirements for every cemetery we serve across Cardiff and South Wales.

We will check the regulations, submit all necessary paperwork, and ensure your memorial is installed to the correct standard - so you do not have to worry about a thing.

What does it mean?

For some, it is a place to visit. A destination. Somewhere to bring flowers, sit quietly, or talk out loud to someone they miss.

For others, it is about legacy - knowing that a name will still be visible long after the people who loved that person are also gone.
