Simon Burdge

Simon Burdge I grew up in North London and studied Art in Chester and Stoke-on-Trent. I started a business that screen-printed onto plastic and garments.

After my studies, I went to Cardiff to look for work and continue painting in a studio near the Cardiff docks.

Turning yesterday's newspapers into today's tiny masterpieces.
These 122mm square handmade cards are built from found paper, layered collage, and original art, then brought to life with paint, chalks, and oil pastel.
They're playful, textured, and 100% one of a kind β€” because recycled doesn't have to mean boring.
UK shipping only for now.

Mass-produced cards? Couldn't be these.
Every one of my handmade collage cards is made from recycled paper scraps, old magazines, and hand-finished with paint and pastel. No two are ever the same, so every Card is a little one-off artwork.
Sustainable, textured, and full of personality β€” because your Card should be as unique as the person getting it.
Available in the UK only.

These handmade collage cards are made from rescued newspapers, magazine clippings, and original artwork, then finished with paint, chalk, and oil pastel for extra texture and colour.
Each one is unique, slightly embossed, and essentially a tiny piece of artwork you can post.
Art from rubbish, but make it iconic.
UK only for now.

The sunflower paintings by Vincent van Gogh are among the most iconic images of the twentieth century. I've often seen them when I visit London. My Sunflower on a Blue Background picture is not a copy; replicating an artist's painting is the best way to understand the subject matter as the original artist might have seen it. I'm sharing my offering: an A4 gouache on paper, signed and dated 2024.

🎠 A fun fair in full swing is never quiet β€” and neither is this painting! Inspired by summer evenings at the fairground, I wanted to capture the clash of light, colour, and sound. Children balancing giant teddy bears, rides whirling into the night, and music shouting for attention β€” all layered into a joyful chaos on paper. A reminder that sometimes the brightest memories come from the busiest places. 🌟

Here is a photograph from last weekend. I was drawing in my local church. I took a few pictures at he same time. A black and white photograph of an old churchyard cemetery, filled with weathered gravestones beneath the shade of tall trees. The light filters through the branches, casting patterned shadows across the ground and headstones, adding a timeless, contemplative atmosphere. The scene captures the stillness of history and remembrance in a serene natural setting.

πŸ¦“πŸŽ  I’ve been asked many times whether I use photographs for my artwork. The answer is definitely yes! When possible, I take pictures of my subject as I draw it β€” and sometimes I photograph something purely for its own sake.
Here’s a zebra from a carousel at a fun fair β€” I love its joyful, larger-than-life grin. Over the next few weeks, I’ll share more photos like this that inspire me in unexpected ways.

Title: A Lamp on a Table
A pencil drawing on paper in my sketchbook, capturing a simple scene. The lamp was blue, and the side cupboard was dark oak, creating a nice contrast in the composition.

This tree stood by Worthing Station as I waited to catch a train to Brighton. With a black felt-tip pen in hand and a bit of time on my side (possibly a pint too 🍺), I quickly captured it in my sketchbook. It's simple, but I've always had a soft spot for this oneβ€”proof that even the quickest sketches can linger in the memory.
