Finished this one off today and some shelving in the alcove opposite.

See previous reel for the video.

All in raw mdf, just waiting for some paint now for some final shots.

Angled under stairs storage. Two drawers with shelving in and one door to a pull-out hanging rail and small lower drawer.

All in raw mdf at customers request to paint themselves. Finger-pull machined in all along the top of the door/drawers to match their kitchen.

Probably the largest under-stairs storage I've done to date. It challenged me at times but it came together well in the end. The angle actually came out really well considering I had to make a good guess what the space would be after ripping out what was there before.

Looking forward to getting photos of it painted and in use.

I'll be back with more photos once skirting and painting is done.

Lots of MDF units at the moment. Lots of customers choose it for price point but also ease of matching colours in the home.

Big MDF doors ready for the customer to paint.

Built like a room partition, just to close off the awkward space for storage use.

Hallway coat and boot storage installed this week. Transforms the small space.

Other makers had apparently been out off by having to make it work in such a shallow space, but that's what custom built furniture is all about.

It was in the workshop a while until the colour was decided. It's only called 'light grey' by farrow and ball, but it looks great and works better against the softwood than I imagined.

A very tricky space to photograph in and tricky again to crop to fit for Instagram. 😅

Some more chunky softwood shelves.

Laminated up to 300mm deep for the right alcove. Scribed in, much wider at the back than at the front.

A controversial choice maybe. The base of these drawers is each painted a different colour ranging from light to dark from top to bottom. A bold choice in the bright primary and secondary colours but pale enough to still see the grain.

I have done some decorative interiors on small pieces before. I took this from looking at some Japanese work when doing my art foundation at that they would often put decorative elements on the inside of furniture to prolong the experience of the piece, such as unwrapping a gift. It prompts you to open it and just adds a bit of fun. I wanted each drawer different so you don't get the same thing every time.

A lot went into this one, being my debut freestanding furniture piece. A great client embraced my ideas so the brief was more or less just the size, number of drawers and in oak.

The budget was relatively low so one of the main ideas for this was choosing inexpensive materials to work with, embracing them and working with them to maximise the potential. Everything you see here on the exterior is made from 22mm short stave oak sheets. I plotted all the cuts out on cad first, so there was just, just, enough. The handles and legs are also laminated and machined up from the oak sheets keeping the same uniform colour and look on the exterior and at the same time keeping the costs down on extra components.

You'll notice the finger joints on the corners are going with the staves to further embrace the use of the material, finished with a nice big round over to accentuate them. I continued the round over as much as I could, making it all a super touchy feely.

The handles took a bit of experimentation to get the look I had in my mind's eye but the result came out great in the end. Soon to have some more pictures up of the making process of these and the finger joints.
