Tree surgery is an UNREGULATED trade in the UK — no licence, no qualifications, no insurance required before someone offers to work on your trees.

Before you accept any quote, ask these 5 questions:

1️⃣ Are you an Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor? (Check the AA directory — don't trust a logo on a leaflet)
2️⃣ Will the work be done to BS3998:2010? If they don't know what that is, walk away.
3️⃣ Can I see your public liability insurance certificate?
4️⃣ Have you checked for Tree Preservation Orders or Conservation Area status? (If they haven't, YOU carry the legal risk — not them)
5️⃣ What happens to the arisings — and how will my garden be left?

A cheap quote from an uninsured operator isn't a saving. It's a transfer of risk from them to you.

Respect, precision, control. 🌳

This week the squadron has been working on behalf of the local authority, removing large dead trees from a working cemetery — one of the most sensitive, high-target environments in arboriculture.

With headstones, memorials and visiting members of the public metres from the work zone, there’s no margin for error. We deployed a tracked MEWP for safe access into the crowns, dismantling each tree in careful, controlled sections rather than felling — every cut planned, every piece lowered under control.

A full week on site, working to BS3998 standards, with the grounds treated with the care they deserve throughout. All arisings removed and the site left clean and tidy on completion.

Dead and dying trees in high-footfall public spaces are a genuine safety risk — but removing them takes planning, the right kit and a disciplined team. That’s the job.

One large spruce. Sectional fell, controlled dismantle, every limb lowered with precision. Stump ground out. Grass skimmed back to a clean base.
