Somewhere in the last few years (if not a bit more) I forgot to properly indulge in the moments that bring joy. Those life-affirming pockets of love.

I’m learning to notice again and slow down. It’s what hygge and cwtch is all about. Not perfection, not performance but the everyday beauty all around. Choose what brings us light and do more of that. Simple hygge living.

Here are a few detail shots from our most recent Glanrhyd project.

Carefully curated furniture with delicious textures aimed to bring a feeling of calm elegance.

Our client loves Art Deco style. The combination of cool, smooth marble with fluted wood suited her sense of style perfectly.

She wanted to achieve a minimal feel layered with textures. These pieces add a sense of glamour and luxe so often associated with the Art Deco era.

It’s always a pleasure to work with clients to realise their design ambitions.

This project grew organically from initial design advice for the kitchen and utility to full design for most of the ground floor and bathrooms.

We are careful to get to know matters for our clients and how they live so we can present a thoughtful design which meets the brief.

In this project, layout of the large open plan space was all important to strike the right balance between the different living zones.

There are a multitude of decisions to be made. We can gently lead you through the process and give a considered design proposal having done the thinking for you.

Hello and welcome.

I’m Annie, founder and interior designer at Hygge & Cwtch Design Studio.

I created Hygge & Cwtch in 2017 after a successful career in law and University management because I wanted to spend my days doing what I’d loved since childhood: creating beautiful spaces that help people feel more at home in their lives.

Today, I help homeowners create calm, characterful homes that feel as good as they look.

My work is inspired by Scandinavian design principles, a love of nature and the Welsh idea of cwtch — that feeling of warmth, comfort and belonging.

You’ll find natural materials, thoughtful layouts, layered textures and timeless design here. But above all, you’ll find spaces designed around the people who live in them.

Because great design isn’t about impressing others.

It’s about creating a home that supports you.

A home that feels balanced, welcoming and uniquely yours.

Alongside interiors and gardens, you’ll also find glimpses of our creative life here — artwork and ceramics and the making process that inspires so much of what we do.

I didn’t want this to slip by. We’re truly delighted to receive this Houzz recognition a 5th year running.

I nearly missed it because we were away on holiday when the email dropped into my inbox.

It always means a lot to receive these awards because taking care of my clients in all aspects of what we do is super important for me. Being by their side, as they embark on (often) one of the most significant investments they will make, is an integral part of our collaborative design process.

We are keen to get to know our clients to listen carefully and fully understand their needs. We ask lots of questions to tease out how they live and what will make the difference to them in their home so that the design solution transforms their daily living. At each and every stage, we want our clients to feel heard, guided, reassured and inspired. Ultimately, we want our designs to elevate the way our clients live within their homes and get the most out of their spaces.

Well it’s a very different feel. High contrast and Scandi feel. It ties in with our black garden studio and our black side extension nicely. I’m still getting used to it but it’s making think of Abigail Ahern’s garden, which I’ve always appreciated. I’m a fan of green plants against black backdrops.

We’re planning on adding an awning and tying in the inside outside more. Potentially also adding wood slats with more green plants.
