This drives me to innovate new designs and come up with new concepts on every design brief given to me. Inspired by the beautiful welsh mountains and similar Yorkshire dales, cycling helps me to see the beauty, that very often this comes out in my designs. Working in a range of materials including wood, metal and plastic, C.Owen Designs can make one of a kind work that lasts more than a lifetime. C.Owen Designs is focused on making long lasting furniture, One of the main aims for the furniture we build is to out last the age of the tree that it was sourced from, and we truly believe that it is possible. The use of high quality materials and craftsmanship along with good design will mean that the furniture can outlast the owner. C.Owen designs is based in the heart of mid Wales on Carwyn's family farm. It is great to say that C.Owen designs furniture is not only inspired by the landscape of mid Wales, is built from the trees growing in mid Wales, and built in mid Wales. Carwyn sources his timber from the farm where possible, this not only ensures healthy tree harvesting, but is also an extremely eco friendly way of getting timber. all of the wood off cuts are either used or burnt for heat in the workshop, and all of the sawdust is used on the farm as animal bedding.

The latest customised topographic map going out the door. This one has 6 different points of importance to the customer.
I particularly love this one as they’re mostly Welsh mountains. And the map clearly shows the mountain tops of each!

There has been a whole lot of ❤️ for this year and I am so grateful for every single commission and order that comes my way.

It’s been a super diverse year with loads of TV work, personal growth and my small products flying off the shelves.

It’s now too late for online orders to arrive in time for the big day but local delivery and collection are still available 24hrs a day between now and the 24th.

I will be absolutely flat out in the workshop between now and then getting final orders complete but my social media elf will be able to deal with any enquires.

I often have discussions with people of how large the maps could go, well here we are, this map is a full 1200mm wide and almost 1600mm tall (4"x5.25"), making it the largest possible map made from a standard sheet of birch plywood.
And yes, It is topographically accurate, meaning the texture you see carved into the plywood is an accurate representation of the hills and valleys of wales.

Hey!
I realised that many of you may have not seen my face, so here it is.
My name is Carwyn Owen, hence the business name, and I am a first language Welsh speaker from mid Wales now living and working in Cardigan.

Many of you have loved this dining table, and guess what, you could have one too. Luckily, the tree that this table came form was huge, the 2 slabs I used for this table top were actually the smallest! 😳
The tree used was an ash tree, and what an ash tree! The timber is splayed olive ash, meaning that there are slightly darker colours towards the middle of the log as well as some whiter bits where a fungus has began it work, it also has a lot of quilting (the grain undulates making the light catch it in all sorts of fun ways).

Ash has been my favourite wood for a while now, I love how it works, and more importantly, love how it looks, but if ash isn't your thing, I also have slabs this big in oak that are dry and ready to go! of course, the design of the top and base are changeable depending on what style suits you!

Here is a sneak peek of the behind the scenes of the table that I showed you yesterday.

The wood is from an ash tree that needed to come down because of its vicinity to the main road and risk of it coming down - in fact, highway patrol insisted on it! It was very generously given to me by my parents neighbour, who is also a family friend.

The section used for this table was the largest ever log that has been on my bandsaw mill, but it cut like a dream. I used 2 separate slabs and book matched them to get a wide enough table top. This is why you can see the mirror image in the wood grain.

As a furniture maker, I rarely actually take the time to build furniture for myself, and if i do, its often thrown together to get the job done.
It was a delight therefore to take the time to make this beast of a dining table for our home.
