πŸ” Missing Keys? No Problem... Or So I Thought! πŸ”
Today's job started with a customer who had lost their keys. The lock needed replacing anyway as it was the wrong size, so I successfully picked the lock and fitted a new thumbturn cylinder, making life much easier from the inside.
Job done? Not quite! πŸ˜…
Once the new lock was working properly, it became clear the door's full multipoint mechanism wasn't doing its job and wouldn't lock into place correctly at all.
After a full strip-down and measuring up, a new mechanism has been ordered and I'll be back to get everything working exactly as it should.
Sometimes what looks like a simple lock change turns into a bit of detective work! πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈπŸ”§

πŸšͺπŸ•ŠοΈ R.I.P Door πŸ•ŠοΈπŸšͺ
A sad day in the locksmith world today. This commercial uPVC door finally clocked out after an impressive 17 years of service. Considering most last around 10–15 years, it definitely did overtime. 🫑
I first saw this door 5–6 months ago and gave it the diagnosis no door wants to hear: "You've got about 3 months left, mate." Somehow, through a temporary fix and pure stubbornness, it carried on longer than expected.
Today I tried everything... toe and heeling, a few encouraging words, probably even offended it a little... but this old warrior had simply had enough.
Unfortunately, not every door can be saved. Sometimes it's not a repair... it's retirement. πŸ₯²
Gone but never forgotten. Please join me in a minute's silence for a door that really opened up to people. πŸšͺ❀️

πŸ” WD-40 vs The Caravan Lock πŸšπŸ˜‚
Emergency call-out to a caravan park this morning. The customer needed to leave urgently, but a worn lock had caused the key to sit out of alignment, leaving the lock jammed.
After discovering some very stiff pins (helped along by a generous dose of WD-40 πŸ˜…), I carefully manipulated the lock, reset the pins, and managed to get the door open without damage.
Customer got on their way, and the lock got a second chance!
Today's tip: WD-40 and locks aren't always the dream team they seem to be! πŸ”‘πŸ˜‚

πŸ” DIY: 0 | Locksmith: 1 πŸ”
Today's emergency call-out was to an HMO where someone decided to have a go at the lock before calling a locksmith... armed with a knife. 🍴😬
The mission was simple: open the lock. The result? The lock was opened... permanently. The pins were jammed, the lock was well and truly broken, and entry was no longer an option.
Thankfully, I was able to gain access and get the customer back to their belongings without any further drama.
πŸ’‘ Friendly reminder: If your lock isn't opening, introducing kitchen utensils to the situation usually just turns a small problem into a bigger (and more expensive) one!

πŸ’³ Locked Out? Your Wallet Doesn't Have To Be! πŸ”πŸ˜‚
Good news! I’m now accepting card payments, credit cards, and even Klarna payments through your app.
Let's be honestβ€”locks have a habit of breaking at the worst possible time. They never seem to wait until payday! I've been there myself, so I know how stressful unexpected expenses can be.
Whether it's: πŸ”‘ Locked out of your house
πŸšͺ A failed door mechanism
πŸ”’ A lock that has decided it's retiring without notice
You can now pay by: βœ… Debit Card
βœ… Credit Card
βœ… Contactless
βœ… Klarna (through your app)
And for those who believe in karma... don't worry, I accept karma payments too. Unfortunately, my suppliers still insist on pounds sterling, so karma only covers the good vibes! πŸ˜†

πŸ”§ Door Drama Averted! πŸšͺπŸ˜…
Today's job involved replacing a dodgy door mechanism and giving the door a full service while I was there. There were a few small issues starting to show themselves, but left unchecked they could have turned into a much bigger (and more expensive) problem down the line.
Everything is now working smoothly as it should, and another happy customer with a reliable, secure door.
If your door is sticking, dropping, catching, or just not feeling quite right, it might be worth getting it checked before a minor fault becomes a major repair.

πŸ” Today's Job Update πŸ”
Today's job involved a property where the tenant had moved out, and the owners wanted the locks changed for peace of mind. A new 1-star thumb-turn euro cylinder was fitted to improve security and convenience.
While carrying out the work, I found that a latch was missing, so I removed the full mechanism from the door for a closer inspection. It turned out that several screws were missing, and the centre gearbox wasn't quite the correct fit for the door.
Unfortunately, some of the required parts are now discontinued, but I've managed to source what is needed and have them on order. I'll be returning on Saturday to complete the repair and get everything working as it should.
Sometimes a simple lock change uncovers hidden issues, but it's always better to find and fix them properly than leave them causing problems down the line. πŸ‘

Small jobs matter just as much πŸ‘Œ
Today was a straightforward handle change over. The old handle had become a bit worn and wobbly over time, so it was swapped like for like with an identical replacement.
Everything now solid, secure and working exactly as it should again πŸ”
Sometimes it’s the small issues that, if left, can turn into bigger problems later on.
