WHAT A FANTASTIC DAY!

A massive thank you to everyone who brought their magnificent classic cars to the SR Crockett Classic Car Run! The weather held out perfectly for us, making the drive through our beautiful Galloway countryside absolutely stunning. To top it all off, we enjoyed some lovely refreshments and delicious cake together at the end.

A huge thank you to the Dalbeattie Men's Shed for bringing the wonderful, historic Skeoch car for everyone to see. It was a true highlight of the day

We are thrilled to announce that together, we raised the incredible sum of £576! Every penny of this will go directly toward the maintenance of the Kirk. This vital funding ensures the building stays open and well-maintained for the community to use for future events, weddings, christenings, and funerals.

Thank you all for your incredible generosity, your stunning cars, and your wonderful company. See you at the next run!

The 4th annual S.R. Crockett Vintage Car Run kicks off at 1pm tomorrow (Sunday, 31st May) from the Market Hill in Castle Douglas.

Even if you don't have a vintage vehicle, you can still join the fun. Head down to the Market Hill at 12:30pm to see all the cars gather, or meet everyone at the finish line at Balmaghie Kirk around 4pm. There will be cakes and refreshments at the Kirk Hall, and plenty of time to chat and admire the vehicles.

We are also running a S.R. Crockett Run Raffle, where you can grab tickets for a chance to win a special bottle of Balmaghie S.R. Crockett Prosecco plus other prizes! Tickets will be available at the Market Hill and at the end of the run at the Kirk Hall.

A massive highlight this year is the arrival of the Skeoch car, brought along by the Dalbeattie Men’s Shed. Originally built in Dalbeattie back in 1921 as Scotland’s first cyclecar, the original production was sadly cut short by a factory fire. The Men’s Shed team has painstakingly recreated this amazing piece of local motoring history, and it will be on display at the Kirk Hall for everyone to see up close.

It's not too late if you have a vehicle you'd like to enter, it's just £5 per person. You can grab an entrance form from Gowans Carpet Shop on King Street, Castle Douglas, or just turn up on the day!

Hope to see you all there tomorrow for a brilliant afternoon

Volunteers Needed: Help Us Keep Balmaghie Kirk Beautiful!

Grass cutting season is officially upon us! Unfortunately, the Council is no longer cutting the grass in the older part of the graveyard or along the roadside verges leading up to the Kirk.
Over the last several years, a wonderful group of volunteers has stepped up to maintain these areas. Their hard work keeps our beautiful, historic Kirk looking loved and cared for—but they need more help. Can you spare a couple of hours to support your local community? Whether you can help regularly or just now and then, we would love to have you on the team.

How to join:
Please give Shirley Thomson a call on 07824997509 to get involved!

Every bit of help makes a massive difference. Please share this post to help us spread the word!

S.R. Crockett Vintage Car Run Sunday, 31st May 2026

Get ready for a nostalgic trip through the Galloway countryside! The 4th annual S.R. Crockett Vintage Car Run kicks off at 1pm from Market Hill in Castle Douglas. This scenic route celebrates the "Crockett country" landscapes that inspired the famous local author, winding its way through the beautiful Galloway countryside before heading to Balmaghie.

A special highlight this year is the arrival of the Skeoch car, brought to us by the Dalbeattie Men’s Shed. Originally built in Dalbeattie in 1921 as Scotland’s first cyclecar, the original production was cut short by a factory fire. The Men’s Shed has painstakingly recreated this piece of local motoring history, and it will be on display at the Kirk Hall for everyone to see up close.
