Rubberfuse TPO fully adhered single ply membrane Dark Grey with BIPVco thin film solar PV modules .

3 kW system designed, installed and commissioned.

The PV modules were designed to fit between the Rubberfuse standing seam effect profiles .

We are pleased to confirm that we have achieved Broof (t4) fire certification for pitched roof application.

A pitched roof is classified as a roof with over a 10 degrees pitch .

It is important to check that the single ply system being specified, does achieve the correct fire rating for the application .

A lot of Broof (t4) fire tests are carried out for flat roof applications, I.e 10 degrees and under .

We have seen a video on LinkedIn of fire experiment that doesn’t represent a true performance of a given single ply membrane. We do not know the specification of each of the single ply membranes being tested.

The reverse side of a single ply membrane would never be exposed to fire , when it has been incorporated into a full roofing system . In addition, most calendered single ply membranes have the fire retardant and UV package within the top layer or the exposed side of the single ply membrane.

For the National building code in the UK, the most accepted fire test is to EN 13238-5:2016 and with the Broof t4 certification being the highest standard achievable, meaning unrestricted use on any building . This is a full system fire test including the deck, VCL, insulation and the single ply membrane as it would be installed on site in a horizontal application. The fire ignition source is from the top / exposed side of the single ply membrane.

The key point is that the correct system build up needs to be specified that achieves the highest National building fire certification for your location.
