Another great project on the horizon! 🏡

SCB Structures has been engaged by a client and their architect to explore how we can minimise the structural works required to transform this existing bungalow into their dream home.

We’ve carried out a detailed structural inspection of the property and are developing a scheme to demonstrate how the existing structure can support the proposed architectural modifications without unnecessary or significant structural intervention.

The aim? Smart structural engineering that works with the existing building rather than against it.

More to come as this exciting project develops! 🏗️

When an explosion happens, the damage isn’t always immediately visible.

Following the recent explosion near East Hanningfield, SCB Structures has been instructed to carry out a structural inspection of one of the affected properties.

Our role is to assess whether the blast has caused structural movement or damage, distinguish between new and pre-existing defects, and determine whether any remedial works or further investigations are required.

Cracking, displaced masonry, movement around openings and distortion to floors or walls can all provide important clues — but understanding the cause is just as important as identifying the damage.

What’s hiding beneath your communal areas? 👀🏗️

Today we’re investigating the existing structural condition of a retaining wall and the space beneath a communal area within a residential block.

The goal? To understand whether this currently unused space could be transformed into additional valuable space for the residents.

Before you start knocking through walls or creating new openings, it’s essential to understand what the existing structure is doing — and what can safely be changed.

Another interesting challenge for the structural engineer! 👷‍♂️

Another barn conversion is underway, transforming an unused space into a beautiful home office.

It’s always rewarding to help breathe new life into historic buildings while preserving their original character. This project will combine a modern structural design with stunning original features, creating a unique workspace full of charm and history.

It’s already looking fantastic, and we can’t wait to share the finished result.
